Downloading video from Sony DCR-HC45 Camcorder using a 1394 Firewire. My PC is not recognising the connection. It did work at one stage without any problem but not any longer. What must I do

You have to go on Device Manager and delete the imaging device. Then uninstall old drivers and software used with the camcorder. With 32 bit OS (Win XP and Win 7 32 bit) install Nero 8 Essentails or any other video capture software. Do not plug in external device during install. After installation is complete, reboot your PC. Now you can connect your camcorder with firewire port and then open the nero software. Under video capture, it will detect your sony camcorder.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400. Installed ASUS DVD RW drive in December 2007. It seemed to work just after installation but now it does not work. I get a Windows Media Player Error Message...

But can you still use the DVDRW right? the only problem here is you cannot use media player because of the error message? Because if the DVDRW still read and write so there's no problem with it the problem is with the windows media player, Try using a different media player like VLC.

Hope that helps.........

"disk error" occurs when disk is inserted

the drive cannot read data from the disk, follow these instutions:
if you are using vista, right click on "computer" then select "manage" then select "device manager". look down the list until you find CD/DVD and click on the + icon next to it, then right click on the CD/DVD and select un-install (make sure that there is a disk in the drive, preferably a movie or music CD) then restart the computer, when the computer restarts vista will detect the drive and install the drivers again, look in computer to see if the disk has been recognised

let us know how you get on

Sony dvd recorder as hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.

I need the driver for my slimtype dvdrw ssm-8515s. it says no driver installed error code 41

It shouldn't need a specific driver, the driver should be loaded as part of the standard IDE/ATAPI support for Windows (what version of Windows are you running?)

In Device Manager, try Uninstalling the device (right-click it, choose Uninstall), then restart the system. It should be auto-detected again and Windows will try to reinstall the appropriate drivers.

If that doesn't work, we will need more information about your computer.

How Do We Install

It is probably picking up the airwaves only. Treat it as if it were connected to a satelite dish service. You need to turn the device to channel 2 or 3 (depending on what output channel is specified on the freeview) and from here you can change the channels without having to scan for them. This might be the case but then again, it might not

Panasonic DMR-E55 Won't Let me Record my own VHS

Hi

This is probably caused by an irregular magnetic encoding pattern being generated by the tape itself. If the DVD recorder does not fully recognise the code, it may incorrectly interpret it as copy protected. If there is any tape flutter or there are tape edits, these can contribute to the problem. In addition to this magnetic imprinting can occur on old tapes that have been stored for a number of years without being spooled. basically wrong bits of the tape get magnetised. You can sometimes hear an echo on old tape recordings caused by imprinting.

You could try the following:

1) If available, try using a different video machine to play back and record from.

2) Whatever video machine you use, put your tape in, fully fast forward and rewind a couple of times, then try your recording again. This is particularly important if you haven't used the tape for some time.

3) If it fails again, check to see if it always fails at the same point.

4) If it does, try winding forward a little and then try to resume recording.

5) If you can record it means that a short section of tape is giving a spurious code to your dvd recorder and confusing it.

6) Use a re-recordable dvdrw to make a master. You won't keep wasting discs if the recording stops. You will also be able to produce another dvd from your master and edit it if your recording ends up in a number of segments.

7) Always use the highest quality setting possible when producing a master.

8) If all else fails, if you have a friend with another dvd recorder, maybe try that.

Have fun....
