First thing I would do would be to loosen the thumb screw fully so the chain is as loose as you can get it Next, loosen the chain bar and pull it out as far as possible which will take up the slack in the chain itself. Re tighten the chain bar. Afterward, you can perform detailed adjustment on the chain by playing with the thumb screw.

This solution has always worked for me and my various chainsaws.

What kind of oil do i use to maintain the chain on the saw?

Hello there, I just used 30 weight non detergent on my Still gas saw years ago.Mainly because it got used so fast. You might check your local bicycle shop cause they have stuff that stays on the chain better($10.00 and up).Just keep the chain sharp and don't overload it. Most any hardware store will carry some kind of chain oil.You could call a saw shop and ask them as well.I burnt up the plastic chain adjuster once because the chain was to tight ,had plenty of oil but chain was to tight.About 1/8 gap or a little less at the bottom the bar.Unplug , wear gloves and pull the chain around the bar to check for binding. THANK YOU for choosing FixYa.com.

Just bought a Worx 16"

Does the chain stay tight. If not it will fall off. Make sure the bar is fitting snugly against the body of the saw and that the chain is fitting in the drive sprocket properly. There should be a tensioner screw to help tighten the chain. Make sure that is secure. Otherwise take it back for refund or replacement.

How do you replace chain sprocket on1988 mculloch 16in. chain saw

Open the right side of the saw enclosure where the chain screw adjuster is.After that you will see the screw, unscrew and thigh the chain forward but not too much just adjust and test by hand, tight the screw and do a start test.

Post or thumbs back!

The chain popped off and I can't get it to fit back on.

Losen the bar mounting nut, then losen the chain tension adjustment screw until the chain can be reinstalled, then tighten the tension screw until the chain just sags 1/8" or so at the center of the bar then retighten the bar mounting nut.

I just bought a Poulan 16'' chain saw with quick adjust chain tensioning. The chain seems to loosen after a short time of use and the chain comes off. Quite disturbing.

1. It is common for a new chain to stretch. that is probably what occurred
2. I'd hold the tip of the bar 2-3" above a stump or even a news paper, rev it up for a few seconds and look for a line of bar oil. If none is visible your bar oil reservoir is empty or saw isn't oiling. If you added oil and it's not oiling return it to where you purchased it.

How do you adjust chain tension? I have the 16" Remington electric chain saw, and the chain will not stay tight; it slips off the rear sprocket as soon as I try to use it. I don't feel everything is...

Here is a link to instructions for EL-8 series saws ... http://www.desatech.com/pdf/115499-01_EL8_Series_Chain_Saw_Tension_Adjustment.pdf. For series LNT-2, LNT-3,EL-1, and EL-7 according to the manufacturer... "WARNING: The cutting edges on the chain are sharp. Protective gloves should be used when touching the chain. Unplug the chain saw from the power supply. Allow chain to cool. Loosen the guide bar nuts until they are finger tight. Ensure the adjusting block is in the adjustment hole in the guide bar. Turn the chain tensioning screw clockwise to increase tension. Turn the chain tensioning screw counterclockwise to decrease tension. Check for proper chain adjustment by pulling down on the chain at the bottom center of the guide bar. You should see no more than a ⅛ inch gap between the chain cutting links and the guide bar. The guide (or drive) links should not come out of the guide bar grooves. The chain should rotate freely around the guide bar. If it does not, chain tension should be decreased. When the chain is properly adjusted, tighten the guide bar nuts securely." On the M series if your chain keeps slipping off your sprocket... The Sprocket cover tab (located on the round part of the sprocket cover) isn’t inserted into the saw body tab slot. I hope this helps you!

Tightening chain

with the electric makita you should make sure the bar is sitting on that oval slide piece on the saw. they should fit together so that the bar will sit flush against the clutch plate and saw. attach the cover with the nut and tighten just enough to hold the cover on. then turn the screw on the nose of the saw, next to the bar, and then tighten the nut the rest of the way. if there's slipping or the chain wont tighten you should inspect the bar to make sure it is sitting flush against the saw.
