Question about Eclipse AVN5500 Car DVD Player

1 Answer

AVN5500 - Display stuck at "Updating" when using Sirius.

When I play sirius radio, the display is stuck with the message "updating" in the center of the screen and I can't do anything with it. I can't change the channels using the touch screen (I'd have to use channel up and down), I can't show the title of the song being played, etc.

When I first start the car, there is no problem with the display, however, after I go into reverse, or if I were to show the title, then the "updating" message will show. Any idea what's going on here? This message has been there for the past week, so I don't think it's really updating anything from Sirius.

hey just wondering if you ever figured out the problem , I'm having the same problem , very irritating!!!.

  • machintos Jan 10, 2009

    This is the original poster.
My display actually fixed itself, so now my display does not show the "updating" message anymore.
What I think happened was when the sirius was doing its update, I might have cut it off (i.e, not letting it complete its update) and hence, the display kept showing the update message. But when I was driving from Houston to Dallas (roughly 3.5-hour drive), the display just went back to normal. So I guess there was another update from sirius and the system was able to complete the update process.

I know it's not much help, but I originally thought that this was a permanent problem which turned out to be a temporary one.

I have the same issue. For a number of weeks now the display has been stuck on "Updating". Dropped a battery charger on the truck and parked it outside in clear view of the sky for about 30 hours. Did not fix the issue. Pulled the power and let it set for about 45 min. Powered system back up. No change in the issue.

Same issue. Checking now with Sirius to see if they can re-send the update.

Did it ever work? Sounds like you have an interface problem. Make sure the radio is connected to a Sirius XM satellite. If your device is not connected to a satellite, your device will display an error message such as "Searching for Signal."

Shows "updating". Never completes. Pulled power plug and retried. No help. Displays channel 0 until antenna is pluged in then updating. Displays "antenna failure" if antenna is unpluged during "updating".

Unit keeps beeping and turning itself on and off. Have had this radio for 5 years and never a problem until now.

Hi sasutton,

SIRIUS-Ready radios are usually identified by the SIRIUS dog symbol appearing somewhere on the radio itself. A SIRIUS-Ready radio is a radio that may require the purchase of a SIRIUS tuner in order to be activated.

Every 90 minutes if you do not interact with the player, player display a notice and play a small audible alert to ask if you're still listening to the player. If you're not, the player will shut down after five minutes of the message being up there. If you are there, all you have to do is click the button and you can continue listening. Sirius player do this so that we're not streaming to computers that have no listeners, to maintain optimum performance for active listeners. You are probably not sitting at your computer when this message pops open which is why you get interrupted.

Good luck!
And Thanks.

All of a sudden the display says invalid channel and 0% updating channels sirius says the radio must be broken

I would try a different antenna first, then exchange radio if that doesn't work. You will have to 'update' the radio for about 30 minutes after you first activate it, but after 30 minutes it should be fine. Try the activation channel (channel 1) - call Sirius for a 'refresh'. After 30 minutes, your undate should be done. Turn the radio off with the pushbutton on the radio. Turn it back on - should be no more updating. If so, then there is a problem.

I'm recieving a strong signal on my stiletto 2 but no sound on the radio. The MP3 player works with headphones and so does internet radio.

You need the firmware upgrade from the Sirius website:

Bug Fixes
· Reduced incidence of “acquiring signal” and “antenna not detected” messages
while the radio is installed in the Stiletto Vehicle dock (SLV2)
· Improved audio quality and distortion reduction
· Reduced incidence of long block recording and Radio Replay corruption
How to Get this Release
Updating over WiFi:
Subscribers may update Stiletto 2 over WiFi by following these steps:
1. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
2. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and press the HOME button
3. Use the MEDIA DIAL to scroll to Internet Radio
4. Press the SELECT button to connect to Internet Radio
5. Tune to your favorite station and let it play for several hours.
6. Follow prompts on screen to complete the update, then power cycle your radio to
apply the updates.
7. Next go to HomeSettingsDeviceDevice info, if the baseband version is
already 00.14.94 you are done. If not, continue to the next step.
8. Reconnect to Internet Radio and listen for at least 15 minutes.
9. Disconnect, and tune to Satellite Radio. Updating Sirius will be displayed for
approximately 5 minutes.
10. Once the message clears, your update should be complete. Go to the Device
Info screen to verify the update has been successful.
Updating using My Sirius Studio™:
Customers without WiFi access may update using My Sirius Studio™ running on a PC
with an active internet connection:
1. Launch My Sirius Studio™ on your computer. Be sure you are running the latest
version of My Sirius Studio, currently version 1.5.1.
2. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
3. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and connect it to your computer using the USB cable
supplied with your device
4. In My Sirius Studio, click on the gear icon next to the device or go to File
Device Settings Check for Software Update.
5. Follow the instructions that appear in My Sirius Studio™ to complete the update.
Please Note: During the update, your media library must be re-built. If you have a
large amount of content stored or a microSD™ card installed, the process can last
for as long as 10 minutes. During this time the message “updating media library” or
may be displayed.
6. After disconnecting from your PC it will be necessary to power cycle your Stiletto
and connect to Satellite Radio to refresh your channel list.
For additional questions regarding your Stiletto 2 or the SIRIUS service, please refer to
the product manuals. You can also reach the dedicated Stiletto Technical Support Team
at 1-800-869-5364 from 10 AM to 10 PM Eastern Time Monday through Saturday, or by

Display "Updating"

I am having the same issue with my Eclipse radio with Sirius. I called my installer - Al & Ed's - this was the first that they have heard of this. This suggested that the unit be powered down - disconnected and reconnect the power - but warned me that all of the presets would be lost.

I am going to take it in and have them do that. I will re-post re the outcome.

Very frustrating.

Clarion SIRIUS Radio Receiver - Not Receiving All Subscribed Channels

My DX445 does the same thing. Here's my method for fixing it, it should work for any similar Clarion receiver:

1. If possible, make sure the radio is turned off when disconnecting the battery. If the radio turns itself on when the vehicle is restarted (for example after jump starting or battery disconnect for a few seconds only), turn the radio off.

2. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative battery cable from the battery. Leave it disconnected.

NOTE: Car batteries can be dangerous things. If you're unsure how to do this safely, get an experiences mechanic to help you.

3. Reset the radio. On my radio this is done by removing the faceplated, and pressing a tiny button for 30 seconds. Your radio may be different.

4. After waiting at least 20 minutes, reconnect the battery.

5. My radio displayes 'System Check -- Press Power'. After pressing the power button, the display reverts to the clock.

6. Turn on the radio. It should work fine on the broadcast bands.

7. Select 'Sirius'. The radio should display 'Updating'. Don't touch anything until the radio finishes its update phase. When it's done, it should tune to Sirius channel 1 and play as normal.

8. This should restore normal tuning. reset your presets and preferences.

What seems to happen is that the radio gets stuck in a 'Category Select' condition, but not all the categories will load, and manual tuning will not allow, say, Radio Classics to play when the radio is stuck in Pop mode.

On occasion (maybe 1 time out of 10), the radio hangs while doing the 'updating' in Sirius mode. If this happens, just shut off the radio and start over. I've never had to do the brute force reset more than twice since I stumbled on this method.
