If the printer sat for a couple of months not printing there may be dry ink on the magenta cartridge however for a printing error like this I would try removing the printer driver (uninstall) and reinstall, even if it is exactly the same driver!
That often works for those erroneous errors that seem to happen with printers!
The printhead has either become too clogged to flush out with with the internal cleaning operation (which uses a LOT of ink), OR, the nozzles are not firing. If after several cleaning operations there is still no significant improvement, you will need to replace the print head. I see this frequently with Canon and Epson, and Brother inkjet printers. Usually, it is due to leaving the printer idle for too long, or removing a cartridge and not replacing it right away. The air gets to the residual puddle of ink in the head and dries it.
You can find the replacement print head by Google searching "MP830 print head". Prices can vary from around $70 - $90. Changing it out is fairly simple. You only need to lift a lever that holds the head in place. Make certain that it is squarely seated, and then run a few pages of a color document, or do a couple of standard cleaning operations to "prime" the head.
Make sure the hed is NEW and not used or "refurbished". Here is one source on eBay that sells it for $78.00:
Hi
If a single inkjet in your printer is not functioning then output will appear as a horizontal line across the page. If one of the jets is on all of the time then output will have black or colored lines across the page. Use the following steps to isolate the problem:
- Replace the ink cartridge
- Check the flexible cabling for continuity and for short circuits between adjacent conductors
- Exchange the control board for a good one
- Finally check the power supply
Good Luck
check the ink cartidges (the color ones) scanners use just black ink to print with (all grayscale) if you can't buy/ afford cartidges right now (who ISN'T broke these days!?!) then set the preferances on the printer to "black/ grayscale" and see if that works ( also is a good test to see if ink is out)
try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.
A horizontal line U say and U don't have problems in B&W pages.... ( on the length or width af a A4 page?) the yellow line is just a line or parallel lines at the same distance?.
1-st of all try replacing the Y cartidge.
1st how old are the cartidges ink could be solidified.
2nd did you take the plastic off of the new ink heads?
try runninng clean pint heads from printer control
Try re-installing the printer driver it might be caused by a virus... if not then you need somebody to clean your printers head mechanism.. the blue cartridge might have messed an ink to its circuit.
