Did you use the installation software CD-rom before running it on your new computer? Most scanners comes with an installation CD that you have to install before using it. You may also have to restart your computer before using it after the installation. Good luck.
The CD-ROM has the installers for older versions of Windows. The installation routines for the newer versions of Windows have changed considerably from those that were in use when the CD was written. You can get the drivers and Canon Toolbox software for the scanner from Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide25#DriversAndSoftware . Select Windows 7 in the dropdown menu. The software will work with any version of Windows 7.
The only exception is that the third-party software is not available for downloads. If you want to use the original CD software (assuming the disc is undamaged) and you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install Virtual PC and XP mode for a free XP virtual computer. Then install the scanner to the "XP computer" as you normally would. However, the virtual computer and the Win7 computer cannot both have the hardware installed simultaneously. So to share files, you may need to save them to external media (optical or hard drive). If you have one of the other versions of Windows 7, you can do the same thing with any virtual PC program and a licensed older version of Windows.
After downloading is complete, unplug the scanner USB from computer and run the
software that you downloaded. The software installer will tell you when
to connect USB.
Always get the original manufacturer's drivers directly from their website. Be sure to select the correct Operating System (like XP or Vista or Mac OS). Canon CanoScan 4400F Drivers
