Open Question

NEOWARE C50 BIOS Password

I can not access the bios on the above box. I was told the password was DOGBITES but that doesnt work? Any ideas please as I have tried everything now and really need to get in there to make my wireless keyboard and mouse work properly.

Thanks in advance

Bought this nice Neoware thin client at a yard sale $5. It appears to work. Can't find the password to change the configs on this terminal. Tried "DOGBITES" and that doesn't work. Removed the battery for a few days, no change. Tried the jumpers in every position, no change. Removed a socketed square chip, no change. Removed the "snap in", no change. These things seem bulletproof. I would highly recommend them if HP still made them.

SOURCE: I have a Neoware CA10,

do you hear the speaker beep when power is on?
If no beep first try resetting the BIOS with the use of the jumper inside the unit, if it's still not working, try removing the RAM module, if you hear beep's replace the defective RAM module, if it still not working than sorry IT'S DEAD

Good luck!

OK first off I don't know anything about this device, But I can tell you most OS level passwords I have dealt with are stored in the OS by way of a battery on the main board. If you open the unit and remove the battery and wait about 15 minutes, then reinstall the battery and close everything back up. Then turn it on and see what you get.
Has worked for me in the past On laptops.
You may have to try and leave the battery out overnight and then try it.

True, even if you reflash the system to bring it to a fresh state, it will still need a server to do anything reasonable.

Head over to http://www.neowareftp.com/ and click on the "Tech Support" link. A password dialog box will show up: [since it may violate TOS here I won't post that info, but it's readily available on the web.] Once in, click on the FlashRecovery link, then pick the flash that relates to your machine - CA5's are usually the CE versions. Download the file.

Now, this program will work on XP systems. Install the program and follow the directions. You'll need either a cheap hub, switch, or a simple crossover ethernet cable. Hook the thin client to one end, your PC to the other, run the tftpd32 program as described in the documentation, set up the thin client per documentation.

If all is done right, your thin client will grab an ip address from the tftpd32 program and you'll see the reflash menu. Pick the number corresponding to the proper reflash, and watch the machines do the rest.

When it's done, you'll have a pristine OS on your device.

now understand, these are made primarily for accessing terminal servers in businesses or schools or hospitals, so it may be useless unless you just want to do some primative web surfing (the CE version has an embedded version of IE5, no java, no flash, and probably no room to put it on that 16meg flash disk.)

But if you buy these devices for a accessing terminal servers, this will give you a clean client.

Bios password

You should be able to re set passwords in the bios by putting jumper on JBAT 1 terminal from pins 1&2 to pins 2&3 for a few seconds then back to pins 1&2, but you will have to set the time again etc.. But you may also find there is also a network log on password which is another story. Your Ratings are important
