Miele G1270SCVi The washing powder tablet flap fails to open and release. The flap will release manually so the spring catch latches and releases ok.

I removed the front cover of the dishwasher door to expose the detergent flap mechanism. The flap latch is not operated by bi metal or wax expansion as suggested by "Sweet Rascal" but by a solenoid operated lever. Bearing in mind that this machine is only just outside of the 12 month warranty (Sods Law) and my wife uses the modern tablet detergent, there was no caked up detergent to cause the flap to stick. I checked the solenoid with my multimeter and found it to be ok. I then switched the mains back onto the machine and lo and behold the machine flap worked ok. I had jiggled the cables at the bottom door hinge point because I did have a broken cable problem with an earlier machine that we had. Whether this was the cause (I don'think so) or whether it was an electronic glitch that has reset when I disconnected the supply I don't know. Time will tell! If the solenoid fails to operate again do you have any further solutions?

In some instances the tablet can exert a slight outward pressure on the inside of the detergent dispenser flap. This may be due to the manufacturer changing the design, different brands or simply inserting it differently. The release mechanism may work for a while with no issues but in certain instances it may cause the flap to bind and fail to release. If the flap seems to work with no tablet in the cup this may be all that it is. In other instances it may have been a stray electronic fault but if it reoccurs then then I doubt that it was a stray.

This was a common occurrence on Asko machines which use a similar release mechanism and Bosch machine which use a wax motor.

If the detergent cup doesn't open, check the detergent cup, the bi-metal switch or wax motor, and the timer. Make sure that no dishes are blocking it from opening.
The cup that holds the detergents can get caked and gooped up with old detergent. You should try to clean away any old detergent. If you can't clean the detergent away, you should replace the cup.
The bi-metal switch is activated by the timer and is an electrically operated device that bends when electricity is applied to it. It uses two different metals that are bonded together. As they warm up, they expand at different rates causing the metal to bend. The degree of bending can be set with a high degree of precision. Many devices use the bi-metal switch. A lot of newer dishwashers use a wax motor instead of the bi-metal switch. The wax motor has a wax block that gets heated up when the timer sends electricity to it. The wax expands as it gets heated up, and it pushes a plunger that opens the detergent door. Depending on how your dishwasher is wired, the switch may be wired through the motor circuitry or through the heating element. If the heating element is broken, there will be no electricity to properly activate the switch or heat the wax block in the wax motor to open the cup. If the motor doesn’t let enough electricity through its circuit, the bi-metal switch won't operate properly, or the wax motor wax block won't get heated up to expand and push the plunger.
On many dishwashers, an actuator arm links the timer to the detergent cup. When the timer reaches the correct time of the cycle, it activates a lever that opens the cup. If this link is broken or in any other respect faulty, the cup will stay closed, and won't let the detergent into the dishwasher. Check this linkage and either fix or replace it.

What could be causing the door latch to release late in the wash cycle of my Kenmore Ultra dishwasher?

The door spring tension might be causing the door latch to become disengaged. Check the level of the dishwasher and also adjust door spring tension. Will need model number to provide more details.

Malber WD2000 door won't open

Malbers use a thermal (heat acting) latch to hold the door closed, so it stays latched for about 2 mins after being turned off. This is to give you time to think before you open the door and possibly spill water all over your feet. When the little bi-metallic piece cools off, it bends to one side (inside the latch assy) releasing the catch, and the door can be opened. Sometimes, the bi-metallic part bends OK, but the latch catches and won't release. It just needs a little vibration to free it up. A smack to the latch area (on door or face of Washer) will free the latch.
I tell my customers: Don't pull too ******* the white door handle. If you can't open it with your little finger (seriously) it's not ready to open!

How do I install a new Handle/Latch assembly on the door of a Whirlpool LHW0050PQ 4 Wash Machine...have to remove present one as broken---pull handle door catch does not release---have to release putting a...

I had to replace part No 8182408 - the washing machine door handle. There is a plastic bar in the middle of the assembly that broke because the door was opened too hard.

There are two springs, the latch, and the plastic piece that brings it all together. The smaller spring is the key, call it the L spring. It is shaped like an L and goes around the ends of the latch. The other spring is the larger and straight and goes around the tops of the plastic piece. The straight spring goes in with the crossbar facing on the outside of the washer. The latch with the L spring fits in between the plastic crossbar with the U shaped end pressing against the latches inside bar. The antenna of the L spring needs to wrap around the plastic bar and fit inside the straight spring bar. This applies pressure on the latch to stay closed. When the handle is pulled, it releases the pressure and allows you to open the door. The Metal bar is used to hold all the pieces together and once you have the alignment right, put it back into the door with the straight spring antenna tucked in the spots on the door, as well as the metal bar ends. Screw in the two spots that holds the assembly in place and you will be set. The door should open and shut easily.

Open the door manually.

The door release can be seen hanging, pull the cord, the door will open.
Close and open the door 2 or 3 times and your machine will work ok.

the plastic trim around the handle pops out easily there will be two rods going outward towards the latch [the clips are known for breaking] these rods pull inward together to release the latches

2001 AUdi S4 Trunk will not open. Can't open manually or wiht remote. WIll do it speratically. Can not open manually wiht button at trunk or with key. HELP.

The same "latch" secures the trunk closed.
The key, electric relay and button operate the same latch.
IF the trunk fails to open, the "latch" is not completely releasing from the catch that secures it.
The next time that you open it, inspect the adjustment of the latch assembly. It has 2 bolts that secure it. You can loosen them and adjust the assembly to a slight more open position - so that each time you operate the latch, it releases from the catch.

Don't move the assembly too far - or the trunk will not be able to lock closed at all.

Dyson DC07 Clear Bin Flap will not release

I just received my replacement root cyclone in the mail today after waiting in the back-ordered status for three months. I positioned a butter knife in between the rubber gasket on the bottom flap lid and the bottom rim of the clear bin at the farthest point from the hinge and slowly and gently wiggled the knife between until the bottom flap just fell open. I examined the rubber gasket and it survived without injury and the bottom flap seals without any gaps...good luck

Kenmore 16163 401 dishwasher

The dispenser flap should be spring loaded to spring open if the lock is released. If it doesn't spring open you should make sure that the spring is placed correctly on the hinge of the flap - if it doesn't spring open it won't get the detergent where it needs to go during the wash. We had the same thing.
