Question about Lexmark C720 Laser Printer

Lexmark C720 grinding noise under top cover

We just replaced our yellow toner cart, and now during warm up and printing, we get a buzzing sound that seems to be coming from under the top cover. I inspected all of the gears that are visible to me for binding and they all pass. I removed and reseated toner carts, photo developer cart, and fuser unit. During recycle after top lid is closed, there are two short buzzes, followed by two longer and faster buzzes.

The toner gears turn, I don't know of it can be described as freely, it takes a good twist to get it moving. But I compared the 'twist' to the two other carts that I did not change and it seemed similar. They do not 'freewheel', but they do move. We got two Lexmark brand yellow carts new at Officemax, and they both turn the same way.

    Thanks, Bob

I was also getting that horrible noise as described. After reading your post, I switched out the black toner cartridge that I recently put in with an older one and the noise disappeared.  Gear on the problem cartridge does not turn. Is there any way to fix it? I would hate to waste the cartridge since they are expensive.

Sometimes the gears on the cartridges get bound up in the auger area. Do those gears turn freely on the new cartridge that you just replaced?

To reset the 'MT CARTRIDGE FULL SOON' error.
Enter Service mode Hold down the paper source and online button at the same time, hit the power button once.Continue to hold down the paper and online buttons until you see the printer name "Canon W6200" on the printers LCD display, then release the two buttons. The printer will initialize & enter service mode.
In service mode, scroll sideways until you see the 'Initialize' menu, scroll down to 'W-ink', and press enter. At this point I did something (scroll sideways and hit enter I think) and it came up with 'New W-ink Cart' Hit Enter to get '=New W-ink Cart' and Online to Accept. I powered down and back up, error all clear.

SOURCE: Lexmark C720 grinding noise & fuser damage

From the site of your Picture, you need a new fuser unit.
The coasting is peeling off... that is not good. And I will bet you get allot of paper jams.

To replace the fusing unit is not hard to do. For the most part taking the covers off the machine and getting them back on is the hard part... Let the fuser unit cool down before you touch it..

Just remember to unplug the machine, Electronic Static Discharge is not good for the Boards in it, touch the metal chassis before you touch the boards if you don’t have a wrist strap) get your self a table and some room to work and take your time.

Take the toner cartridges out
I would do a maintenance kit while I had it apart. (rollers, transfer rollers etc)
Vacuum it out; clean it while you have it open.
(Warning toner and developer is very fine, you might need a vacuum with a micro filter on it, other wise it might go every where)

The service Manual has details on how to do all this. If you follow that you should be ok.
You could try to get all the parts to Fix the fuser unit, but it is easier and faster, cheaper to replace the whole thing. Some places offer a core exchange.

If you need any assistance let me know...

SOURCE: Xerox Docuprint 3290FS colour multifunction black

Xerox does not list that model at all - are you sure the model number is correct ?
It would appear that either the cartridge or fuser may be defective.
Does the machine show any error codes at all ?

Here is a user manual for a similar model 3225 that may help under the troubleshooting section :

SOURCE: my dell 3110cn printer is

This error message indicates that the printer has failed to read information from the chip on the black printer cartridge.

This is either.

1. Black cartridge not fully pushed into place (I've been called out to a couple like this)

2. Faulty chip on the black cartridge - effectively not responding to the printer 'talking' to it.

3. Fault on the main board of the printer.

Solution

1. Push the cartridge fully home.

2,3. If you have an old black cartridge, try that. The message should change to Replace Toner, if it does, its the chip on the cartridge, if it doesn't its the printer.

Error 32 - Unsupported Print Cartridge - Replaced all 4 toner carts and stil getting the error. Could a bad (siezed up) toner cart have caused one (or more) of the rollers in the front cover to shift out...

It looks like having bad (refill??)cartridges. Try original ones. The rollers are there to push the cartridge forwart in the machine on a timed moment to transfer the toner to the belt.

I have a TallyGenicom 8008 color laser printer which while still printing well, is making a terrible noise - a grinding worn out part noise! Any ideas how fix it or lubricate it?!

I would suspect if the printer is still printing and feeding paper OK the problem may be related to one of the toner cartridges being stiff or partially seized.
From memory I believe the most likely toner to cause the problem is the black toner (or the yellow), but you can identify which toner is causing the problem by doing the following;;

  1. Open the front cover (the one you access the toner through) after a few seconds close the cover. The printer should go through a self test.
If the printer makes a griding noise during this self test and warm up phase this helps with identifying the cause.
  2. Open the front cover again, this time remove the top toner cartridge
  3. Close the front cover with the top toner missing
  4. Listen for the noise heard in step 1, if no noise is heard it is likely the top toner needs to be replaced.
  5. If the noise is heard with the top toner removed, replace this in the printer and remove the second toner.
  6. Again close the front cover and listen or the noise, if it is heard the problem is with the second toner.
  7. Repeat this process for the third and fourth toners to see if one of these may be causing the problem.
After you have identified which toner may be causing the problem, you may wish to try gently tapping the cartridge.

An unorthodox method of solving the problem if you are feeling brave and don't mind sweeping up toner!!!!!!!! You may wish to drop the toner cartridge (GENTLY) from waist height to the ground.
This may dislodge any toner jamming the cartridge and will resolve the problem - It will also spill a bit of toner on the ground so you have been warned!

Will the Lexmark C720 print with only the black

There are some Lexmark color laser printers that are capable of black-only printing w/o the color cartridges installed, unfortunately, the Lexmark C720 printer is not capable of printing with only the black cartridge installed.

Noisy Clicking/Grinding Noise Samsung CPL-300N

Hi Paul,

You may want to print out the supplier infor to check if it is a wear and tear issue. press and hold the button for 5 sec and let go.

you may want to remove the transfer belt and check if it is the course. by removing the toner block. pull the belt towards you it shall come out.

item to take note on life span for replacement.

1. Fuser - 25K +/-
2. transfer belt - 25K +/-
3. transfer roller - 20K +/-
4. pickup roller - 20K +/-
5. image drum ( toner block) (OPC) 25K +/-

if the sound that you heard is slightly on the left cover behind near the paper exit. your DEV main drive might have worn out with the fuser gear.

youu may want to download the smart panel to check on error.

Not printing

The problem could be the Developer Clutches not turning the cartridge. Thus toner does not develop and get transferred to the photodev cart. This may be due to a missing retainer clip try replacing the clutches. That should solve the problem.

Noises when printing copies

Take the new cart. out and reinstall the old cart. Does the noise disappear? I would tap and shake the toner cart. BUT BE CAREFULL, the cart is ready to spill toner. On the box and in the instructions it tells you, or should, that you must shake and tap the outside of the cart. This is due to settling and the toner maybe packed. By tapping and shaking it will feel the toner. If the toner is packed it will put undue pressure on the augers inside the toner cart. and cause a grinding noise. If after tapping and shaking, reinstall the new cart. and check. If everything is ok -- great. If the noise remains contact the company your purchased the cart. from and ask for a replacement. These cart. are mass produced and mostly reused ( refurbed). Parts wear now and they do not replace the inside parts, they just repack with toner and seal.
