I put my Dell Dimension 9200 XPS 410 into sleep mode after connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse and the only way to wake it is to hold the power button in until it shuts off and then switch the power...

I would say it is in the Hibernation Mode To get it out of this mode you need to go to your Control Panel, open "POWER OPTION'S" and deselect the Hibernation mode then reboot.

Starts up until welcome screen, then goes black

Hi there,

Try Last Known Good Configuration. From shutdown turn the computer on and as soon as you see the DELL logo start tapping F8. Advance Boot Options will appear and then use the up or down arrow keys to go to Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.

If that does not work:

Try booting to safe mode. After powering the computer up when you see the DELL logo start tapping F8 from your keyboard and then choose "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" if you're able to boot up successfully go to Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools and then System Restore.
Restore your computer to a date when it was working.

Hope you found this helpful!

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 and when I am logged in and walk away for 15 or more minutes it will go to sleep, I will then come back wake it up, log in and the screen will go black and I cannot get in unless...

This problem is ongoing because you have it configured to sleep turn the sleep mode off. What it is doing is attempting to load drivers again and not saving to cache when in sleep mode you may have not enough storage allotted for the sleep mode to save information go and increase the storage memory to store the data so that when it sleeps it can store the data and wake up with your screen as it was when you left it.
Personally I do not use sleep mode never have, never will. It is nothing but a problem for me anyway. I always keep my machines running with the exception of a lap top. So my suggestion is turn sleep mode off. I also log out and then log back in same principal really. Or just close the machine totally power it down. Sleep mode was a wonderful concept along with shutting down hard discs etc. However you will often times be more into a hassle than just leaving it on or shutting it down. Less work for a computer is better just my humble opinion.
Last but not least, my last resort would be to re-install operating system again once I start getting to many things going wrong with my machines I do them over solving all sorts of problems that are behind the scenes that take hours sometimes to repair individually. This would be after you retrieve your lost files from the drive. John

My iphone 3G just shut off on its own & it will not come back on when I try to trun it back on. Does anyone know more or less what I can do to fix that?

Is it completely charged? Plug it in and charge it overnight.

If it is charged, these steps may help:

Download the latest iTunes to your computer and reset the iPhone. Then re-sync it.

Reset

To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond

  1. Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
  2. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a 10 seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
  3. If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

More resets:

Try This:
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.

Also, Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.

Compaq Presario SR1000 won't boot up completely :(

Hi Thanks for your question
I would suggest to enter "safe mode" and then do system restore again. To do this you need to follow these steps.
1.Turn your PC on and press F8 on start up. This should take you to the screen asking what you want to do. 2. Choose safe mode from the list and press enter. 3. Once safe mode loads you should be asked if you want to restore your system to previous state. Just press no to run system restore and follow steps (you already know how to do this)
Shutting your computer down without closing operation system properly may cause start up issues like this one.
I hope this helps you. Good luck

Sleep Mode Lockup on Dell Inspirion 530 w/ Vista

Try hitting the "Windows" key on your keyboard to bring it out of sleep mode. The "Windows" key is generally found on the bottom row of the keyboard, near the Alt and Ctrl keys, and it has no letters on it, just the Windows logo. That key brings my Windows Vista machines out of sleep mode when other keys won't.

As for the power button, anytime you need to force a computer to turn off, you can press and hold the power button to do so. Usually, you need to hold the power button for 5-10 seconds and it will shut down. Use this option with caution, as it turns the computer off without running through the shutdown process and can cause you to lose data.

Hope this helps.
