Question about Amana Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

In 2002, I had an Amana heat pump installed, in 2003, I had to have the defrost panel replaced and in April 2004, I had to have a new air handler installed, I'm not sure how many service calls I have had, but last year 2010, I had 3 calls at a cost of over $300, plus a new compressor, last week it ran and ran and did not heat my house at all. After several calls to the company they finally came and said the compressor was bad, it was replaced on Friday 4/8/2011, the weather was mild and I did not turn it on until yesterday when I needed air, the compressor ran just a little while and the blower is just blowing air. Friday's bill was over $300 for installation and freon. I am frustrated and ready to discuss this with my attorney. After online research I felt,Amana had the best waranty and service reviews. I am a widow and feel I have no recourse but to discuss this with my attorney. Maybe you can advise me otherwise. Sara Gardner

HE heat pump won't talk with old air handler?

The fact is, the air handler supplies the voltage, blower, and electric heat. In order for the heat pump to work correctly, the wiring from the thermostat and heat pump need to be hooked up right to the air handler. The thermostat is what tells which component to come on. If the fan stops, but the condenser keeps going, you either have a faulty fan relay on the air handler, faulty thermostat or wiring, faulty wiring at the heat pump, or the contacts on the new unit are sticking, which is highly doubtful considering it is working now. I hope I have helped you understand this a little more. Good luck and don't let them push you around, get someone that knows what they are looking at.

Open the airhandler -should be a speed selector on the main board. If not -checkt he installation/set-up manual. May be some dip switches you can turn on or off to modify blower speed.

Where is the reset button on an Amana ASZ14 unit?

I don't think the Amana ASZ14 Heat Pump has a reset switch, but you can still reset it by resetting the power (when it's not running... turn your thermostat OFF first).

To reset the power, locate your circuit breaker box. There should be a double-breaker for the Heat Pump and another double-breaker for the Air Handler. Turn them both off for at least 2-3 minutes. Then flip them back on and turn your thermostat back ON.

You're thermostat may also have a RESET button that you can push. I have to reset mine every time I change the batteries in it.

New heat pump system freezing, questioning wiring.

W1 and E on stat need tied together. When W1 comes on wire where all heat elements come on. On the outside unit defrost board set the 45-60-90 to 45 and see if that takes care of the frost problem.

It sounds like your defrost board failed. You will need a tech to replace it. With that model it may have a parts warranty but you pay labor(?)
