You have to find out what are your suction ports (for example skimmer would be one you probably don't have a main drain)once you have all suction ports located pipe separately back to pump and create a manifold so that you can isolate each suction port with a valve on each line then tie all back into a single line then into suction side of pump then pipe return side of pump back to the return ports of pool installing a valve as you come out of pump you don't have to separate these lines.

Buying a pool heater. Which brand best reliability and service. Looking at Hayward H series cupro nickel 400 K Btu Nat Gas. Also considering Pentair MasterTemp CuproNickel 400 K. Will be heating an...

Both of those heaters are fine I prefer the Pentair for it's smaller footprint and ease of installation as you can turn it for access to plumbing. The Hayward is tougher to turn the exchanger on and you only have right or left as options for the plumbing to come out. Sta-Rite is still my favorite for installation being easy to plumb, wire and run gas to. It's very easy to change from natural to LP also.
Most heaters today are the same in reliablity and that is mostly up to you to keep the chemicals correct. Being in the business I always look to ease of install and access for repair.

How do I drain my spa?

is this built in spa (integrated with pool) or stand alone above ground spa? If it's above ground, you should have a drain plug along the bottom, possible behind a control panel. If it's an integrated spa, then depends on the plumbing. You may be able to just change a couple valves and drain into pool. Give me a little more info and I can help

I have a Pool Eye PE23 and the instructions don't show how to install it on an above ground pool. Do I put it on the railing as I haven't got a deck for the pool?

This particular pool alarm is made for an inground pool. As far as I am aware, you cannot use in on an above ground pool. You will need a pool alarm that is designed for an above ground pool.

Pool pump shutting off/tripping the circuit breaker

What kind of pump are you using?
Sounds like the Intex is restricting water flow there by heating up your pump and shutting it down..
You may need to re plumb everything to handle the flow.
Intex hoses and fittings are different than the industry standards just so the can make you buy from them
Do what ever it takes to get good flow

How to setup a diverter valve for above ground

If you want all your water going thru the solar heater before re-entering the pool, you'll need to plumb the end of your filter to the solar heater, then the water exiting from the solar heater would go where the filter hose did go back into the pool. Hope this helps.

I have the Pentair AT 251501 in-ground pool pump. Can this pump be used with an above ground pool and sand filter?

Yes, but not recommended. If you are going to use it on an above ground pump the system head will drop to a very low number and the pump will operate very high on its pump curve causing a couple of potential problems.

First, your filter will have to be rated for the high flow. I do not have Aqua Tools curves or numbers to give you an exact figure but if you have your horsepower you can look it up on the web. Your filter needs to be rated that high or you will have problems; even a filter failure.

Your pump will exceed the hose flow ratings and may require PVC plumbing to operate.

You should consider plumbing in a throttling valve on the pump discharge to help moderate these problems.
