Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Open Question

We have a freezer on top model #ET8CHMXKTO5 at our futuer seasonal home in Florida. We have been here just three times (2 weeks at a time this past year). The appliances came with the house and is approx 5 years old. My brother/sister-in-law bought in the same development 5 years ago, has the same appliances and are experiencing the same problem. The bottom, inside, of the refrigerator fills with water dripping from the freezer somehow. I called a repair man last December (not whirlpool/sears) as we don't have original paperwork cannot prove it under warrantee or whatever. He came out said it is a common problem with Whirlpool refrigerators. The freezer freezes up in the back line and therefore drips INSIDE the frig. He removed the back of the inside of thte freezer and using a hairdryer defosted the ice. We return now in April and the bottom of the frig is FULL of water! That is just sitting here with no one opening or closing the frig or freezer! What is the common problem and how do we have it repaired to not repeat?

SOURCE: whirlpool refrigerator with freezer on

The drain line that comes through the casing may be plugged or the trap at the bottom of the hose where it drains into the drain pan under the refrigerator may be plugged. If water is freezing it is because it is being held back by a restriction.

SOURCE: water leaks from inside refrigerator

could be ice is forming at the vents already.

even though it is a frost less refrigerator, in some instances, you may want to defrost it manually or leave the door open for 1 day just to be sure that every ice in the fridge has melted. then plug it back in and observe it.

tnx 4 using fixya,

SOURCE: water dripping from somewhere inside the refrigerator

I believe the problem is with the drain line when the frig goes into defrost mode

see if you can trace the drain line that oes into the evaporator pan at the bottom of the frig

facing the frig remove the bottom panel that goes across the front and pull out the evaporator tray to see if it is dry

take a flashlight and see if you can see a plastic tube that the water should be dripping into the pan

try to trace the tube up into the frig ther is some type of catch basin inside the frig on the back panel usually around middle area

If you are not able to find it you can call whrlpol customer service 1-800-253-1301
or call an appliance service enter and as them f they can walk you through the problem

Good Luck

SOURCE: WATER DRIPS DOWN FROM INSIDE TOP REFRIGERATOR BELOW FREEZER

Not an original solution - but a good one. Remove panels at the back of the freezer compartment to expose the heater unit or heater wire that defrosts the freezer coils and wrap a solid copper wire gently around the heater/ heater wire and place the loose end in the drain. This will conduct heat to the freezer drain and help keep it open. I did see a manufactured part in one of the appliance parts websites but it did not match my unit.

SOURCE: Maytg Top Mount Freezer drip tube leaks into bottom of Refrigerat

Just had this problem a few weeks ago. tube from freezer was frozen solid 1-2 feet down from the freezer. Empty EVERYTHING out of the the Fridge and the freezer into coolers or other suitable 2-4hr container(s). Unplug the unit and use a hair blow dryer on the coolest warm setting. If it's too hot it may melt plastic or styrofoam parts. As long as long as you have everything out and it's going to be at room temperature for a while, why not clean it totally out with fantastic or your favorite cleaner. Once your sure the clog is gone from the tube, put it all back together, plug it in and stop being a slob and keep it clean!!!! hehehehehehe

Water is slowly dripping from the top of Frig.

The water is coming from the defrost cycle in the top of unit . It drains down at the back of the light cover into a tube at the back. Get a phillips screwdriver and take it down to be sure tube is inserted properly. Get model number and go to.appliancepartspros.com to get a diagram.

New freezer not cooling - temp @ 25 degrees and food is defrosted

It is probably the control board and since it's new it's still under warranty so a certified Frigidaire repair man will fix it without charge. There should be a telephone number with the paperwork you received when you bought it.

Leaks after a couple of weeks use

You may need to put a hartford loop in your plumbing between your chlorinator and the heater. The chloriene will back up in the line bad when the pump is off and corrode the exchanger. A hartford loop is simpley a loop than runs low then high above the top of the heater so it can trap gasses in the line and won't let them get back in the line. If all else fails you can use a floater. Be sure to check your PH also. Good luck.

Bottom freezer not working

Hi, sorry I do not have any advice to offer. We have the same model. Three weeks ago the red light came on and freezer stopped working. Last week the fridge packed up. We may have been unlucky but I thought it might be worth mentioning incase they were related and your fridge gave up as well.

Ge after replace fan still fan not working

Something to check for. Is the top of the refrigerator door lower than the freezer door? If so the ref. light may not be turning off all the time. Pull bottom panel off to expose hinges. The ref hinge should have an adjuster. Adjust door up to be level with freezer.
