I just purchased a pair of Valentino sunglasses. I love them, but one of the small decorative metal pieces on the front of the glasses was either missing when I bought them (and I didn't notice) or has disappeared in a matter of 3 wearings. I can't return them as the tags have obviously been removed. Where and how can I get a replacement...it looks silly, and I paid a lot of money for these glasses! I thought possibly lens crafters or some other eyeglass or sunglass shop, if not through the manufacturer. Thank you! Nancy Schlegel

If you go back to the shop where you bought them, and explain the situation politely, most will be happy to sort this problem out for you.
If this doesn't work contact the manufacturers (Valentino) directly and explain the situation, they should be able to help you also.

Is there a way to reduce glare on a pair of plastic prescription glasses

I would like to suggest you,to use glasses that are made up of AR coating to virtually eliminate reflections from the front and back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses. Few sunglasses stores like EL sunglasses ( Products Archive EL Sunglasses ) have made up with cheap polarised sunglasses which enables to reduce glare while reflection emits.
tip

Tips for Choosing Good and cheap sunglasses.

<br />UV Protection<br />&bull;Make sure the sunglasses you choose will block at least 99 percent of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV-blocking glasses protect the cells in your eyes from damage that can lead to cataracts or macular degeneration. If you purchase sunglasses that don't block UV rays effectively, you will be missing out on the most basic function of sunglasses: protecting your eyes. Even the cheapest plastic lenses often come with 99 percent or 100 percent UV protection, so check the label before you buy. <br />Lens Type<br />&bull;When browsing the sunglasses rack, keep in mind that some lenses are better than others. Inexpensive sunglasses are usually fitted with plastic lenses, which come in many varieties. For driving or outdoor sports, polarized lenses are best--they block reflected light from the road, snow or water. For general-use sunglasses, grey-tinted lenses are recommended because they absorb light evenly and provide clear and comfortable viewing. <br />Frames<br />&bull;Although you will not be paying much for your sunglasses, you will still want them to last more than a few days. Cheap sunglasses made with metal frames are often flimsy and break easily at the joints. A pair of shades with sturdy plastic frames are likely to last longer than metal-framed sunglasses. Plastic frames are also preferable because they will not rust when wet, take longer to sink if dropped in water, won't get hot if left in the sun and are easier to find at the bottom of a pool.

<br /> How to Tell If Oakley Sunglasses Are Fakes.<br />&bull;1Look for the distinctive "O" on the arms of the glasses. Genuine Oakleys always have this.<br />Make sure the glasses have metal, not plastic, frames.<br />Consider the price. If it's too good to be true, it's probably not a real pair of Oakley sunglasses. Oakleys typically start at around $100 and go up from there.<br />Look for your glasses in an Oakley catalog or on the official Oakley website. Compare the glasses in question to the picture of the official model and read the description carefully. If you can't find a matching model at all, steer clear.<br />Make sure your glasses come in a box with a microfiber cleaning bag and warranty card. The box itself should have a barcode on it and a description of the sunglasses.

How to Repair Ray-Ban Sunglasses.<br />&bull;Replace a lost or missing screw in your Ray-Ban sunglasses with a small piece of wire. Push the earpiece back into place on the sunglasses and gently wiggle a small piece of wire through the screw hole. Pull the wire through the opposite end and push it back through. Push the wire through at least three times and use your pliers to twist together the ends.<br />Fill a small bowl with warm water and set your sunglasses in it. This is a quick trick for fixing loose frames. The warm water heats up the frames, making it possible to reshape the glasses yourself. Remove the sunglasses after a few minutes and gently bend the frames.<br />Hold the Ray-Ban sunglasses in one hand to replace a lens that popped out. Turn the sunglasses over, so that the front faces down and place the lens onto the back. Gently press down with your other hand, until the lens pops back into place.<br />Use an eyeglass repair kit to replace any missing screws. The kits come with several small screws and a tiny screwdriver. Line up the screw to the proper hole and gently screw into place. If the screw won't go in, it means that your screw hole is stripped and you need to use the wire method.<br />Seal broken parts with instant glue. For broken frames, apply a thin layer of glue to one side and push the broken piece back into place. Hold until the glue dries. Instant glue also fixes lenses for wireless frames. Apply a layer of glue to the bottom of the top piece and push the lens in place.

Where can I send Dior sunglasses for repair?

hi

Repairing an expensive pair of Dior sunglasses does not have to be complicated. A return to the retailer they were purchased from will simplify the process. Dior sunglasses are sold with a one year warranty on manufacturing defects, which means they can be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. Simple Dior sunglass repairs may occur through local repair centers.

    Check Your Warranty
  1. There are two ways in which to work with Dior sunglass repairs when the glasses are under warranty---through the retailer and through the manufacturer. Repairs are not generally made by the retailer if the item is within warranty, although simple repairs, like missing screws or loose parts, may be made by some retailers on site. The retailer can send the glasses to the manufacturer for the customer or will give the customer the address to do so. The customer can also go directly to the manufacturer by calling Safilo (Dior's licensed manufacturer) at 877-228-5818 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 877-228-5818 end_of_the_skype_highlighting and requesting assistance. Safilo will then provide directions on where to send the sunglasses. Safilo will repair items that are out of warranty but this may require paying for the repair.
  2. Purchase Repair Kit
  3. Simple repairs can be made at home using a sunglass repair kit. These kits contain a variety of screws, nuts and nose pieces. They also contain a tool to assemble and tighten the repair with. Repair kits are not usually made for a specific manufacturer like Dior. Kits will only supply the pieces for simple repairs and not proprietary parts like nameplates or decorative attachments. Sunglass repair kits can be found through most eyeglass and sunglass stores. They can sometimes be found in variety or drug stores, too. The kits can contain a mixture of gold tone and silver tone parts or may contain only one or the other.
  4. Find Local Repair
  5. Local eyeglass repair can be found in many eyeglass centers and through frame sellers. Personnel in these stores are often trained to make simple repairs. LensCrafters and Pearle Vision are two of the many choices for walk-in sunglass repair. Having sunglasses repaired through these retailers may be ideal when the warranty has expired. Sometimes retailers will not charge for simple repairs. If the customer has purchased a specialty part directly from the manufacturer but does not know how to attach it, a local repair center may be able to assist in the repair

Should I purchase a sunglasses with a glass lens?

Well, here are some facts about glass lenses that might help you reach a better decision.Glass is the only lens material that can be made into 100% optically correct sunglasses. For true vision, there is no comparison between glass and other lens materials.
Glass does not flex or compress. Whenever lenses are placed into an eyewear frame, they are held in place by pressure of some kind. Plastic lenses flex and that creates distortion; but that cannot happen with glass lenses.
Glass does not expand or contract in heat and cold in a significant way. No matter what the temperature outside, 100% optically correct sunglasses will remain 100% optically correct.
Glass is the hardest material, and the most scratch-resistant. Glass is the most durable, and longest-lasting sunglass lens material. However, it is not scratch proof. Sand can scratch glass, but it requires serious effort or trauma to scratch glass lenses.
Technology has made it possible to create a very lightweight glass lens. Today, it can be difficult to tell the difference between glass and plastic, even when holding a pair with glass lenses in one hand and a pair with plastic in the other hand. (Of course, the difference is clear when looking through the lenses. But the weight of the lens is no longer a dead giveaway as to which is which.)

The danger of shattering was once one of the major disadvantages of glass lenses. However, all glass lenses pass the "Drop Ball Test" for impact resistance - the same test that is administered to polycarbonate and CR-39 lenses. When today's polarized lenses tend to break in a similar pattern as a car windshield. The broken pieces of glass mostly stick to the polarizing film that is inside the lens.
These Spotters had been stepped on by the customer. Notice that the broken lens has retained its original curvature. The broken lens pieces were still so tightly held by the frame that we had to smash the broken lens out of the frame with a hammer (it took more than a few smacks, too!). This isn't to say in any way that glass lenses are equivalent to safety glasses. However, polarized glass lenses are much, much less likely to cause injuries today than they ever have been in the past.

I have an old pair of Air Force issued prescription dark glasses.

If these are the same as the Bausch & Lomb 'Aviator' style. Contact Luxotica. They purchased Bausch & Lombs Sunglasses division. I personally prefer the hooked wires to the standard arms and have purchased the hooked arms to replace the standard ones for other B&L sunglasses.

Another option could be to buy a cheap pair of dubious origin 'genuine' Raybans on the auction site and take the hooked arms off.
