How to replace heating element on microwave convection oven jvm1790 sk01.

At my Web site here, I have a video showing you how to remove a typical over the range microwave's grille and control panel assembly in about 5 minutes.

Then you can find and refer to the technical sheet for this model found hidden behind the controller or grille or get it online here.

Next, you'll need to take the oven down from its mount. The installation instructions are a must, and if for some reason you don't still have them, you can download them here.

You can buy GE parts and find helpful exploded views and parts lists by entering your full model number here.

On exploded view diagram 5, "Interior Parts (1) Parts" shows the convection parts, including the heating element, here called a "heater sheath" at ref. # 3019. It is part number WB44X10046 and again, you can get it from the Pros here.

If you have other questions, please e-mail me here with your full model number as shown on the tag in or on the oven, and your detailed symptoms.

Microwave starts by itself

Likely a microprocessor/control panel issue. Microwave ovens that sit over ranges often have electronic failures due to heat, humidity, and grease, from the range below, which come into contact with their main circuit boards.

Goldstar model MV-1515W over the range microwave. Runs everything works but won't heat and hums a bit louder than it use to. Anything I can do to fix???? Fuse, reset, throw away????

Please do not take offence to this answer. Please seek the advice of a qualified person because the capacitors in a microwave are dangerous. Handled wrong at best you will get a severe shock and minor burns at worse its lethal. I know what is wrong with it and a qualified engineer might charge about 80 pounds to fix but my conscience wont allow me to tell you in case it goes badly wrong for you.

My GE 1142 powers up but will not heat food at any settings.

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!any capacitors are discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Our microwave (CFMV156DCF) wont heat or defrost but when you shut the door the light comes on and the turn table turns. The fan and light buttons also work. Do you know how this can be fixed? Thank you.

You probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount.

Our file on door switches is here.

The full service manual for this model is at our site here.

You can order parts by entering your full model number or part numbers here.

Model FMT148G1B2 - over range microwave will not heat food. Clock, lights, rotating plate in M/W all work, just will not heat/warm.

well that depends on the current. If the current is a fluctuating type then microwave wouldn't heat or else if high...please check..

Midway through heating my lunch, my microwave started making a funny noise and "F6" came up on the display. Now I can't get it to work. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

The F6 failure code on a Whirlpool microwave means the cook relay on your control circuit board.

GE Profile Spacemaker model JVM166OWB-005 works but not heating?

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Microwave stopped working

to indutolia

The original problem was probably a bad turntable motor, which is pretty easy to replace.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Now I'd say you have a bad door switch (whether upper or lower depends on the model number) or a problem with the door switch mount.

This is a pretty simple problem to fix, too: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

to lostonisland - Your problem is different enough that it should be a separate post. Please include your brand and model number when you repost.
