Question about Mantis Tiller 4 Cycle Engine Handy Item Kit #3777 00 02

4cyl Holda engines leaks oil out carb. All the oil in the sump will drain out through carb when pulling on starter. Refilled and tried again and oil emptied again

You are getting compression into crankcase, there is a crankcase vent that goes to the intake just behind were the carburetor mounts on the engine this is were the oil is getting into the carburetor, it is doing this because you have a hole or crack in the piston or broken piston rings, the engine will have to be rebuilt or replaced.

Pull start wont pull fully


Usually the rewind spring or spring anchor points are broken. The starter must be disassembled and the parts inspected. Remember the spring is under tension! [There are many different types of starters, and a manual is a good idea if you are not familiar with them.] If the starter is hard to pull, remove the starter and then try it. If the starter is ok off the engine, check the engine itself for a seized or oil-locked cylinder. Remove the plug and pull rope the motor, if it will now spin and oil blows out the plug hole- then gas from the carb is leaking into the sump; or the engine has been tipped for a long time

I have a ridged generator, and my nephew put brake fluid oil instead of regular oil into it.


You have a problem. Drain out the oil . leave out the plug to drain out as much as possible. Get some flushing oil from a lubrication retailer. Remove the spark plug. Replace the sump plug and fill with the flushing oil. Spend around 10 minutes pulling the starter cord or run the starter motor if you have one. Drain the sump and leave out the sump plug until there is no more draining out.. Repeat the procedure again. Replace the sump plug and fill with the recommended proper oil. Replace the spark plug and run for around 5 minutes no load. Drain out the sump oil and refill with the engine oil.. The major problem that brake oil is a vegetable based oil and reacts badly with mineral when heated . IF you have successfully managed to flush out all trace of the brake fluid and there has been no damage to the bearings and cylinders then you are lucky. If however there is signs of contaminated sump oil ( thick---lumpy---black- tarry) you may have to full the engine down and clean out everything.

Troy built mower honda 160 engine oil leak around governer shaft. no oil seal but shows one on parts breakdown. Can not find part number for shown seal.


Drain oil from mower until proper level. Remove spark plug and pull starter rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in cylinder pull rope several times to clean out. Replace fouled plug with new spark plug. Remove air cleaner, ensure no oil present, replace filter as needed. Clean air filter box with carb cleaner. Install new air filter reattach filter cover. Prime engine, pull starter rope 1/2 way 4 times to help prime, then pull starter rope fully up to 10 times to start.

there is no way for fuel to get passed the rings right? So if you filled the head with fuel, it would just work its way down the exhaust pipe and out the back, just like its doing. The only way of getting fuel into the sump is; if you have seriously bad rings (it would be burning oil) OR if its getting through the breather system. I don't even think if the injectors were on full-time, it still wouldn't get into the sump... very strange. Are you sure its not coolant? A serious coolant leak can be completely unnoticeable from the outside, but catastrophic to the inside. __________________

which I fixed. It all started when the bike died on the road. WhenI got it home to try and start it the starter would turn over at first but eventually it would not despite a charged battery. I then realized the engine was filling with gas everytime I tried to turn it over fuel was leaking from thelower exhaust pipe and the site glass was void of any air. I opened up the drain plug and a ton of oil and gas came out. I refilled the crankcase and the motor at first turned over until I realized gas was again leaking from the lower exhaust pipe. I disconnected the fuel lines and electrical under the tank and hit the starter switch again. The motor started and ran for a few moments before depleting the fuel that was left in the lines. That told me I have spark but for some reason gas was gushing into the cylinders at a high rate flooding the engine. I made no more attempts to start the motor out of concern doing that would damage it.,there is no way for fuel to get passed the rings right? So if you filled the head with fuel, it would just work its way down the exhaust pipe and out the back, just like its doing. The only way of getting fuel into the sump is; if you have seriously bad rings (it would be burning oil) OR if its getting through the breather system. OK, this is what the StreerRodders face all the time.

1) Pull all the plugs and get new ones ready.
2) Drain the Oil and replace with 10W-30 with new filter
3) Check the water level in the radiator - make sure up to level
4) Put several ounces of sea-foam down each cylinder
5) Hand crank engine over several times
6) Use starter motor to spin over motor several more times
7) Put Spark Plugs back in.
8) Make sure fuel in fuel tank is drained
9) Add new premium fuel - Use an air hose to clean the fuel line to the engine
10) Pump through new fuel by loosening the fuel line by engine and pumping a bunch through - hook back up tight.
11) Try starting engine -
12) If Carb engine use a bunch of carb cleaner in the carb before starting to clean out most or junk
13) Once engine is started monitor oil pressure and temperatures carefully - run for about 10 minutes
14) Stop
15) Drain Oil - replace filter again - put in new synthetic oil - recommend Amsoil 0-30W
16) Drain radiator and flush out -
17) Reset radiator fluid and top off.
18) check for leaks everywhere
19) Start again and drive carefully for 100 miles and you should be good to go.
