Hello

You may have to calibrate your battery.

Calibrating a laptop battery can increase or restore its efficiency. This should be done prior to first use, and again when you notice battery efficiency decreasing. Calibrating a battery experiencing decreased efficiency is most effective on nickel-cadmium (NiCad) and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. You can still calibrate a lithium ion (Li-ion) battery, though the process is a bit different. Calibrating involves draining and recharging the battery. This process is also referred to as conditioning.

For Ni-MH and NiCad Batteries

Remove the AC adapter from your laptop by gently pulling it out.

Power on your laptop. Allow it to run on battery power until the battery is drained and the laptop shuts down.

Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet. Insert the appropriate end into the your laptop.

Leave the AC adapter plugged into the laptop for eight hours to fully charge the battery. Do not use the laptop during this time.

Remove the AC adapter, turn the laptop on and allow the computer to run on battery power until the battery is drained. Repeat this process until the battery has been drained and recharged 3 to 5 times.

For Lithium Ion Batteries

Remove the AC adapter from the laptop.

Turn on the laptop. Allow it to run on battery power until the battery is drained to 40 percent of capacity. Hover your mouse over the battery icon in the lower right corner of your toolbar. This will display how much life the battery still possesses.

Remove the battery from the laptop. The battery is located on the underside of your computer. Slide the locking mechanism to the side to unlock or release the battery. Once released, the battery will either slide out or can be lifted out of the bay. Store the battery until you are ready to use it.

Place the battery back into the battery bay when you are ready to use it.

Plug the AC adapter into the side of the laptop. Allow the adapter to fully charge the battery prior to use.

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. To to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & amp requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & amp ratings of the power adapter.

Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amps of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.

If the battery does not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.

If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.

If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing.

In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Gateway NV5378u lap top, brand new battery installed and status says 100% charged. When I unplug the computer it shuts off as if there is no battery. Could the new battery be defective?

There are a few things to check. The LED lights can tell you a lot. This will tell you more about the battery:
  1. On the taskbar, double-click the power cord icon or battery icon to open the Power Meter dialog box. Note: If the power cord icon or battery icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the show hidden icons button.
  2. Press Fn+STATUS to view the power status box, which opens in the upper-left corner of the screen. The power status box shows the current power source, the battery charge level, and the power management mode.
  3. Look at the battery charge indicator (if applicable).
    • LED green - Battery is fully charged.
    • LED orange - Battery is charging.
    • LED blinking red - Battery charge is very low.
    • LED solid red - Battery is malfunctioning. Note: This LED only lights up when the notebook is connected to AC power.
  4. Press the battery meter button on the battery. The battery meter lights indicate the percentage of battery charge remaining.
  5. Wait for a Low Battery warning message to appear.
If your battery charge indicator displays what looks like an inaccurate charge, you may need to recalibrate the battery.

To recalibrate the battery as mentioned, try this:
  1. Connect the AC adapter and then turn on the notebook.
  2. As soon as it starts and you see a startup screen, press the F2 key.
  3. In the BIOS Setup utility, use the TAB key to select the Advanced menu.
  4. On the Advanced menu, select Battery Auto Learning, and then press the SPACEBAR to select Enabled.
  5. Use the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Exit menu. On the Exit menu select Exit Saving Changes, and then press ENTER.
  6. At the Setup Confirmation prompt, select Yes, and then press ENTER.
  7. The battery recalibration process begins and a screen opens showing you the progress.
  8. When the recalibration has finished, and the message "Press [Esc] key to exit" appears, press Esc. The battery charge indicator now displays an accurate battery charge.

Hope this helps!!

Shuffle not working

If an iPod appears not to turn on, check the hold switch on the device.

If this switch is activated while the device is off, it will not power on again until the hold switch is turned off.

If that is determined not to be the problem, the battery's charge should be checked.

When the battery is no longer holding a charge, the device will not power on, but will show a battery icon on the screen for a few seconds.

If you see this icon while trying to boot up the iPod, just connect it to the USB cable and allow the battery to charge, which can sometimes take up to 30 minutes before the iPod becomes operable again.

If no battery icon appears when trying to turn on the device, try resetting the iPod.

Once reset, the device should turn on, but if it does not, the battery may need to be drained first (by leaving the iPod disconnected from power for up to 24 hours), and the reset procedure tried again.

hope this helps

BlackBerry Curve 8520 signal swing

#1 Your BlackBerry does not have sufficient Power
Check the battery charge level as shown by the battery icon on the top left of the home screen. No Power - Battery Charge Indicator does not show a charge or is very weak. The battery icon may be red. Charge the battery.
#2 You are Out of Network coverage area
Check the Signal Strength Indicator on the home screen. (1 to 5 bars, as shown below, indicating signal strength). If there is no signal, you may be out of range of the network.
If you are sure you are in range of the network, but show no signal strength, press Alt-Right Shift-Del at the same time. This will cause the BlackBerry to reacquire a network connection.
The process for this procedure is:
  • Press Alt-Right Shift-Del (The Del key is also the Backspace key.)
  • The screen will go blank, and an hourglass will appear. Wait for the hourglass to go away.
  • The startup screen will appear. Wait for it to go away.
  • A screen that says Verifying Security Software will appear. Wait for it to go away.
  • Check the Radio Tower icon.
If you are in Coverage Area of your Service Provider, You will get the network.
#3 Your Data plan is switched Off.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

Battery Icon with red line through it? Durring a back up, my Storm turned off and when I turned it back on this battery icon is all I get. I have a fully charged new battery in it now and it still shows...

This usually means the bb and battery got a little wet or has other issues. Try these solutions in order. They go from easisest to hardest. NOTE: If you have an insurance policy on the bb probably best just to take it in.

1. Remove the back cover. Remove the battery and the SIM card. Wait 30 seconds. Replace SIM, battery and back cover. Reboot. Plug in the bb and charge fully.

2. If that doesn't work, allow the bb to remain unplugged but ON for about 24 hours to drain the battery. Remove back cover and battery. Allow battery and opened bb to sit in a dry environment for 24 - 36 hours. Relace battery and cover. Reboot. Plug in the bb and charge fully.

3. If that fails retry step 2 but allow battery to FULLY drain then dry out again.

4. Take in.

Battery level

As Suzaku explained:
A battery icon will show up on the LCD screen of your camera when it is already low and needs recharging. It can be found at the lower right side of your LCD screen. The ready light of your camera will also blink red and your camera will turn off if the battery is exhausted.
NOTE:
The icon will not appear if the batery is sufficient and there is no TECH way of making the icon show until the batt needs charging.
