Make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
hope this helps

Does anyone know how to open and fix a stuck optical drive tray so it will open? And, is the a way to fix optical drives so they will read cd's and dvd's again?

There is a little hole on the front of the drive. Inside the drive, behind that little hole is either a mechanical release, or an electrical switch, that will cause the drive to open. First, straighten out a paper clip. Turn off power to the drive. Firmly press the paper clip straight into the hole. The drive should open. If not, turn on power to the drive and try the same thing.

My Transcend StoreJet 500GB cannot be opened

Several things could be happening here:
1. your electronic controller in the hard case has failed.
2. you didn't properly disconnect the external hard drive in Windows > with the
"Safely Remove Hard ware and eject Media" in the task bar.
3. if you have a power supply to the USB drive it may have a damaged power connector or not supply proper power to the device.

D drive no light, cannot open manually

Have you been poking around inside your computer? sounds like the power cord became disconnected from the back of the drive. Maybe you installed a new drive yourself? There are 2 cables on the back of the drive. One for data, one for power. Most optical drives are what is known as "IDE". They have a large ribbon cable for data, and a smaller 4 pin plug for power. A newer and less common optical drive is "SATA", 2 small cords, the power being larger than the data.

In both cases the data cable hooks up to the mother board and the power is connected to the power supply.

If you just need to get the disk out, there is usually a small hole on the front of the drive. Straighten out a paper clip and push it into the hole, which will release the lock on the drawer and push it open enough for you to pry it open with your finger nail.

The cd drive won't open

Turn off the computer. Then go ahead and open up the side door. You will see a white power connector connected to the cd drive. Remove the power connector and then reseat it back into the cd drive.

Then go ahead and turn on the computer, then press the button to the cd drive. The drive door should open. If it doesn't then the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

My xbox 360 disk tray will not open it wont even open a little some one help me

have you tried to open the drive using the xbox dashboard, when you press the eject button does the power light flash? is there any noises coming from the drive when you try to eject.

It could be a faulty drive and the only way to get into the drive is by opening the console up and this could void your warranty. if your hearing noises (motor spinning) from the drive it could be the drive belt has snapped (like a small elastic band) you could have dirt in the gears and cogs jamming the drive. so you wouldnt hear noises (except the disc spinning if there is a disc in it).
if the power light flashes when you press eject more than likely it is the drive belt or dirt in gears.

Hi I cannot get my d.v.d drive to open and close. What do I do?

  1. If the keyboard has a CD/DVD Eject key, press it. The Eject key is usually placed by the volume knob and is marked by a triangle pointing up with a line underneath.
  2. Double-click My Computer .
  3. Right-click the icon for the CD, CDRW, or DVD drive that is stuck, and then click Eject.
  4. If the CD or DVD drive door button is a long clear plastic bar on the front of the PC, press firmly on the right side of bar. Some models have a button on the front panel of the PC to the right of the hinged door. Press the button to eject the drive.
  5. If the drive door button is part of the PC case and is covering the actual drive door, open the door that is part of the PC case and press the Eject button on the faceplate of the drive.
  6. Restart the PC and press the Eject button on the front of the drive when the first screen appears (before Windows launches). If the drive door opens this way but does not open in Windows, another software program is taking control of the CD driver. Try shutting down or configuring any software programs that create discs or monitor the CD or DVD drive.
  7. If the door still does not open, do the following:
    1. Close all programs and shut down the PC.
    2. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
    3. Look for the small hole on the faceplate of the CD or DVD drive. This is the manual release. The location of the manual release hole will vary

5ee8abb.gif

  1. Straighten the paperclip and insert it into the manual release hole until resistance is felt.
  2. Once the resistance is felt, keep pushing the paper clip until the drawer opens a little.
  3. Remove the paper clip and gently pull out the drawer until the disc is accessible.
  4. Remove the CD and turn on the PC.
If the tray still does not open, do the following steps to check the power cable for the drive. Work on a hard flat surface over a non-carpeted floor:

  1. Turn off the PC.
  2. Unplug all power cords from the back of the PC.
  3. Press and release the Power button on the front of the computer.
  4. Remove the side panel.
e0ef68c.gif
  1. Unplug the power cable and wait five seconds.
  2. Find a different power cable that is not being used, plug the different power cable into the back of the drive, making sure that it fits firmly into the socket. If a different power cable is not available, replug the original power cable into the back of the drive, making sure that it fits firmly into the socket.
  3. Replace the side panel and plug in the power cord.

  1. Turn on the PC and press the eject button on the front of the drive.
If the optical drive does not have the manual eject feature and the CD tray will not open by using the steps in this document or if a disc has shattered inside the drive, the CD, CDRW, DVD drive may need to be replaced.

Thanks

Cd-rom won't open easily

If this is on your PC then try opening your CD Drive as soon as you power up. If it opens easily at this time but not AFTER it has booted up then you have a driver problem.

If this is the case I would remove the drive from the system, ie unplug the unit both power and ide cable, then reboot twice to take it out of rotation. If it is not the case, then your on board cd controller is bad, just replace the drive.

Next, after powering down, connect the CD Drive to a different IDE controller. Power on and then check the opening of the door. You will have a 66% chance of fixing your problem this way.

Good luck.
