You may have a bad switch. If you have a switch that is not closing completely it could be sending voltage to the microprocessor stopping it from doing any other functions. The microprocessor can handle only one function at a time.

How the microprocesser function

Features
  • Microprocessors have become the movers and shakers of our everyday world. We use them in computers, televisions, watches, microwaves and practically every other electronic device. Their micro-size is no reflection of the myriad capabilities these chips possess, ranging from 2 to 3 mm square to maybe an inch thick. Silicon makes up the material of a microprocessor chip. Sliced wafer thin, silicon serves as an ideal conductor and insulator for Function
  • A microprocessor is the central processing unit in a computer. It receives, transmits and coordinates every command and process carried out by the system. Electrical currents, moving through wires and transistors, are converted into usable messages through the use of a Boolean logic language. Based on the "on/off" frequency of current moving through transistor circuits, this Boolean logic communicates system commands to and from receiving devices within the computer. The microprocessor communicates within two primary capacities: logic and the processing of information. These processes are handled by two components within the chip:
*Arithmetic logic unit (ALU), responsible for all commands requiring an arithmetic or logic function
    * Control unit (CU), which handles the information processing from the computer's memory
  • From these units within the chip, clusters of wires called "bus" lines send and receive information to and from system devices.

You must try to reset the microprocessor in the Clock/Radio. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source. Then remove the Internal battery(CR2430). Let the Clock/Radio set without a power source for about 3 hours. This will discharge the microprocessor and reset it. After you have discharged the microprocessor, you can reinstall the internal battery. Connect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio's Functions should have returned to normal function. If the Clock/Radio did not return to normal function, you must replace the internal battery and again let the microprocessor discharge. After the microprocessor has discharged, put in the new internal battery and reconnect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio should have returned to normal function. If you are still having problem with the functions of the Clock/Radio, You will have to call Emerson Customer Support. The telephone number for the Emerson customer support is 1-800-909-1240. you can call them between the hours of 8am-4:30pm CT. Give them the make and model number of the Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance. I hope this information help you with your problems with the Clock/Radio. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!

    Smarset clockradio

Sorry it took so long to answer your question about the Clock/Radio. This look like a problem with the Clock/Radio's Microprocessor. You will need to reset the microprocessor by removing all power sources to the microprocessor. This means removing the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source and removing the internal battery (CR2430). After removing all the power sources from the Clock/Radio, let the Clock/Radio set for a period of about 3 hours. This will let the power completely drain from the microprocessor and reset it to the factory settings. You can then reinsert the internal battery and plug the Clock/Radio into the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio should have reset and the functions returned to normal operations. If The Clock/Radio functions have not returned to normal. You will need to let the Clock/Radio's microprocessor drain off the power again and put a new internal battery (CR2430). Then test the Clock/Radio's functions again. The Clock/Radio functions should have returned to normal operation. If you are still having problems getting the Clock/Radio to return to normal operation. You can call the Emerson customer support at this telephone number 1-800-909-1240- Call them between the hours of 8am to 4:30pm central time USA. Give them the make and model number of your Clock/Radio and ask them for their assistance. I hope this information helps you with your problem. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!
