Question about Infinity SW-12 Subwoofer
The previous receiver may be got hanged on stand by mode.Unplugging and reconnecting the sub from receiver, reset the receiver and it started working. Many a times, this occurs. The internal component in the receiver board gets bit overheated and goes in stand by mode.Unplugging and replugging resets the board and it starts working. But if in case this same problem occurs again again, then its time to check receiver circuit board.Any of the electrical component on the receiver circuit board is getting weak or shorted or its soldering is got loose. It has to be checked and re-soldered to resolve the problem. At preset the reset helped. And the same receiver is working. Thanks for the update.Helpmech.

The Sub-Woofer can be jammed on the coils and so is not responding to the signal. You can remove and feel the free movement of the coil , if jammed the sub woofer is faulty. If the coil moves then check the continuity with a multimeter in the ohms range. If this seems good then the sub woofer power amplifier is not working and so when you switch on the power amplifier activates and the load thud is heard. It can be that the preamplifier is faulty at the input selector.
The power supply is working and so the fuse is intact. hence you need to open the unit to check for the signal source to the main amplifier.

Most likely there has been a power surge when you turned it off - this has in turn fried the preamplifier or the filter, generating the white noise you now hear.
The preamp must be checked, the fried/shorted parts identified and replaced - in the worst case scenario the entire filter/preamp board will have to be replaced. This requires a good experience in electronics - if you don't have it then you must take the sub to an electronics repair shop.
