I have a Canon Pixma MP860 inkjet printer.
In an attempt to save money, I purchased
the Office Depot Brand recycled ink cartridges
that were said to be compatible with my printer.
The Office Depot cartridges are dangerously
messy to install. I very carefully twisted the
orange cap off the black ink and it spurted all
over my expensive white shirt and pants!!
The yellow inki was also a mess as it instantly
got all over my hands when I removed the orange
cap. Okay, so I'm covered in ink and my clothes
are ruined.... I installed the cartridges and attempted
to resume printing the photographs I needed for a
project. The colors are not true and completely
distort the images printed.

Bought compatible cartridges for lexmark S405 all in one. Won't authenticate them. locked out of printing. Any ideas

For the most optimal output experience with your AIO, Lexmark recommends that customers update their firmware. The firmware helps ensure that customers receive the highest yields of ink available from the cartridges, which offers the greatest value and means fewer necessary cartridge replacements.

If you choose to upgrade firmware, note that unauthorized use of third-party 'cloned' cartridges will no longer be possible.

When purchasing ink cartridges, Lexmark customers have two options:

Regular ink cartridges without license terms (100A/100XLA) that you may a) return to Lexmark free of charge (for recycling by Lexmark), b) refill, recycle or remanufacture themselves, or c) provide to third parties for refilling, recycling, or remanufacturing. Any Regular ink cartridge can be refilled by a customer or a third party and will continue to work in their Lexmark printer.

Return Program ink cartridges that provide customers with an up-front discount in exchange for their agreement to use the ink cartridge once and return it only to Lexmark for remanufacturing and recycling.

I put in new black cartridge and it keeps saying to remove and check cartridge. Everything seems to look ok.

Sometime this will happen if you only replace only one cartridge.
You could try to remove both cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for printer to recycle.
ReInstall both cartridges.

Why are only black and yellow printing?

The printer has two ink-cartridges: black and tri-color.
The black cartridge has ink left.
The tri-color cartridge has run out of 2 of the 3 colours of ink.
Buy a replacement tri-color cartridge,
and responsibly recycle the "empty" cartridge.

Printer does not print.I can't seem to get the ink cartriges out.

If the ink-cartridges do not move to a central position when you open the lid, then the mechanism that moves the ink-cartridges is broken.

Take the printer to a recycling centre, and responsibly recycle it;
it is more expensive to try to repair it, than it would be to replace it.

No red being printed and black comeing out green new cartridges , done clean and realign .

Sounds like it might be clogged nozzles. Try putting some rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth and gently wiping the area where the cartridge comes in contact with the printer and wipe all of the parts of the cartridge that come in contact with the printer.

If that doesn't work, you should be able to get a replacement by contacting Lexmark technical support (info on web site) or you can send the defective cartridge into Lexmark's recycler (get bags at www.lexmark.com/recycle) and include a note with information about the defect and your name, address and e-mail and you should get a replacement.

Replaced ink cartridge in Pixma mp450 w/recycled cartridge

I would take it back to the dealer and get an exchange. Sometimes the quality on refilled cartridges is not as good as it should be. I've had similar problems and had to changed to ordering refills online at LD Products without any more problems.

Printer won't print the BLUE color.

The cartridge may have worked perfectly when you purchased it, but something in either the electronics of the cartridge or of the printer may have failed. Is this cartridge new or recycled? If recycled, something may have been damaged during refilling that happened to pick that time to fail. Replace the cartridge. If it comes back, the cartridge was faulty. If not, then most likely the carrier is bad or the cable is loose. Worst Case Scenario, the main board. But Im betting on the cartridge.
