The heating system has a number of burners which must ignite as soon as the heater starts. When one or more burners does not fully or partially start properly, unburnt gas fed to that burner accumulates in a small pocket until is is eventually ignited causing a small explosion. This condition is caused by restricted/blocked burner jets. The gas jets are small and easily fouled by spider nests or other items sucked into the system. You will need to have the heater serviced by a qualified gas plumber.

When you disconnected the W wire, was the R wire hooked up? If so then you either have a bad tstat or the R and W wires are shorted together.

On the unit outside there is a button that says "push man. pull auto" if it is set to push man then the fan will go constantly.

I had the exact same problem and called 1300brivis. They told me that the error means the thermister needs to be replaced. My unit is also out of warranty but they are still going to come out and fix it.

When it comes to error 62 resetting the unit probably won't work. Because the NG1/lo is INSIDE the heater it is subject to significant hot / cold temperature fluctuations - causing crystallisation in soldered joints on the PC board and a loss of electrical continuity.
