this sorta scares me as i am afraid, i will mess up the system, the screen comes up on when just starting up windows, it saids to pick which system by putting the arrow on windows xp or me. i looked in the control panel and windows me is not there to delete, which by moving the arrow to the system u want to boot to. i used the recovery disk that came with the computer, it came with me, the second disk is the one i used, but there were errors? at the end but it still came up with with windows me, i had the windows me xp home edition upgrade so i still put it in and it did fine. and as u can see i have the two in the computer and the boot screen comes up with the two if i do not choose it automatically starts with xp as it is the first and the one that is highlighted. do u get what i am trying to say and how and should i remove me?

Please click on the link below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272159 (uninstall Windows ME)
To increase virtual memory ->1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.
For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

I want to wipe computer clean and start over

What you want is to format your hard drive. If you have multiple hard drives you have to erase all but the one with your operating system (windows), this can be done by right clicking on them, choosing format.. and following the instructions. Then you have to boot from a cd with an operating system (windows xp, vista, 7, linux!) and during the installation choose to format the hard drive with your previous operating system and install the new one over it. Personal advice: Make sure you have kept a copy of anything you don't want to loose!

Need 873n recovery disk and XP operating system

You will have to buy windows xp from somewhere like best buy or circuit city. unless you have a friend who has a distributable copy. Other wise its illegal to use someone elses copy of xp. You may want totry to contact the manufacturere of your computer if it is newer and see if they will give you another cop(unlikely but hey worth a try). If you end up buying a new operating system I would go with windows vista if I were you.

Windows operating systems

No, you cannot. You would have to do a clean install, which means wiping the old system off your hard drive (backing up everything you want to keep, of course).....nor can you go the other direction either...again, a clean install...
Here's the Microsoft page on it if you want to read it:

Win vista uninstall

Put your window XP disk into the Disk drive. Start up your computer. When it asks you what Drive you want to install it on select C:\ (where Vista is) Say yes to deleting the current Operating System and follow the instructions from there.

You did say you wanted to Uninstall Vista!

If you mean Dual Boot Vista and XP, then you will need to create a Logical Partition of about 10 Gb to install XP on and when asked where to install select this partition. But note that XP will wipe the Boot sector clean of all other Operating Systems which means that if you want to Dual boot then you will have to reinstall Vista again to get Dual Boot functionality.
