You can switch to anexternal monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the externalmonitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and thelaptop. The video information will automatically switch to the externalmonitor. 2. If you power up thelaptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor bypressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make andmodel laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCDscreen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fnkey plus one of the function key. Here is a list of keycombinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Msi wind. when i open up the screen and switch on the screen wont come on

Yes, Barry.

You have a problem with the Video Cable,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-MSI-NO11-LVDS-LCD-CABLE-K19-3030028-H58-MSI-Wind-U90-U100-U110-U120-/261099941400?pt=US_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item3ccac4ee18

In the photo of the cable the Bottom connector shown, plugs into the back of the LCD screen.
The Top connector shown plugs into the motherboard.
(The wire with the metal loop on it is a ground wire )

Just from normal opening, and closing of the laptop, the video cable may become pinched, and pulling on the cable can result.
This may pull the connection loose at the motherboard, or connection loose at the back of the LCD screen, or both.

Happens a LOT. (Have seen it on here a lot, also)

How to solve the problem?
You have to open the netbook, and PHYSICALLY check. A visual check is NOT good enough.
All it takes is a slight disconnection that you cannot see.

If you Physically, check to make sure the cable is plugged in tightly to the motherboard, AND LCD screen, you are assured the connections are tight.

You can also test the laptop before reassembling, and make sure this is the problem.

You are going to need an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)

Access to the Video Cable for the motherboard connection, is accessed from the Bottom of the laptop.
You have to remove the Base Cover.
This means all Static sensitive hardware components will be exposed.

You Do Not want to Static shock your laptop, or you will be using it to skip across a lake with.

[ I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.
You can set a large metal serving tray (Unpainted), on the table you're working on, and connect to it.
You can also use a large metal knickknack (Unpainted), and connect to it ]

I do not have access to a clear, concise Service Manual, or pictorial disassembly guide, to give you.
What I DO have however;

1) http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/msi-wind-hard-drive.aspx?

Details on removing the Base Cover.

2) http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=145775.0

Under U200 (MS-1242) click on the blue -
http://forum-en.msi.com/moderator/assembly-guides/ms-1242-disassemble-sop.pdf

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the above link it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

Not a Wind U100, I grant you, but information detailed crosses over.

Loose connection wasn't the problem? Then you need to take the Video Cable down to the nearest 'Mom and Pop' computer store, and have the tech use a multimeter to check continuity on all the wires in the cable. (Few bucks)

MSI Wind U100-016US 10-Inch Mini Laptop not loading

It seems like the driver for your installed keyboard has been corrupted or lost. You might want to try a rescue/boot disk to get things going again.

We are having problems with the webcam on our msi wind mini laptop. it seems to only connect to only a couple and not all

Have you tried pressing Fn and F6 at the same time? Pressing those two keys on the keyboard at the same time turns on the Webcam.

If you have done that, I would install the drivers for the webcam. Now I am assuming you are running Windows XP, and if so, visit this website:

http://www.getpcmemory.com/drivers/download-msi-wind-u100-netbook-windows-xp-drivers/

Download the Webcam drivers about one-third of the way down the screen.

If after install and restart doesn't fix it, contact me and I can help further.

Also, definitely go here and follow screens for a full update from MSI. Do this either way:

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloadindex

It fixes quite a bit of issues.

Goog Luck!

if this is on your home network
turn off the modem and then the router,
then turn your modem back on wait about 1 min
then turn on your wireless router and try to connect again
