SOURCE: ED55 dryer making screeching noises

sounds like the rear tub bearing has worn out that would explain the noise and if it got too bad the bearing can break causing the drum to stick and not be able to turn

SOURCE: Whirlpool Electric Dryer Model LER8858EQ1 TYPE NO. 180-0

Based on the information that you provided, if you open the door in mid-cycle and the motor shuts off, but the element stays on, this will stop the air flow through the dryer and the element. The element temperature will rise drastically because it is not being cooled. Subsequently, to prevent a fire, the thermal fuse will open, shutting the element, and in some cases the motor, down.
A heating element gets its power from the timer, through the cycling thermostat(s),and to 1 side of the element.
When the motor starts, power is passed through the centrifugal switch in the motor, through the hi-limit thermostat and the thermal fuse to the other side of the element.
There is no ground wiring involved in the heat side of the dryer.
1. An element can stay on because it has broken and fell against the metal tube where it picks up a ground. Solution is to replace the element.
2. The centrifugal switch mounted on or in the motor can fail to open when the motor stops and allow current to flow through it
until the points in the timer open up, breaking the circuit.

Kelvinator auto Sensing Dryer ED55 trips the fuse in the fusebox as soon as the dryer is turned on. All other appliances switched off therefore not overload.

check that it is not a fuse but a circuit breaker ( earth leakage breaker) that protects not only against overload but against faulty machines
if there is moisture, bad insulation , incorrect installation or anything that could cause an electric shock that unit will shut down the power supply
call an electrician to find the fault

Hotpoint Aquarius WD63 door won't open

on some hotpoint models you can remove the front kickplate and on there will be a yellow or green plastic pull toggle, pull this and it will bypass your door lock, if your appliance does not have this then you will need to unplug and leave unplugged for 10-15 mins to reset the door lock, you will however more than likely need a new door lock

Can't open the door

If the door remains locked and will not open, there is a manual release you can use to open the door. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3576511-door_jam_on_kenmore_elite_and_whirlpool_

Sometimes using the manual release will correct a momentary door jam problem and return the washer to normal operation.

If the door continues to lock and not open, you may also try unplugging the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes problems are experienced as a result of a momentary glitch in the operation program. Resetting the CCU can often correct most minor problems.

If you require further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
