Question about Imation 120GB USB MEMOREX ULTRA-TRAVELDRIVE EXT HD 2.5IN 120 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

My memorex travel drive at times acts up. when connected to a pc or PS3, I have notice for some time now that it makes a sort of skipping sound again and again until I unplug it. It's like the machines try to identify it but can't connect so the it just keeps stopping and starting. When I do unplug it, it makes a click noise. I am just wondering if this is a common issue with this product. I haven't really been happy with it at all for awhile and really don't trust it much. I think it's on its way out but I just wanted to make sure.AND NO, there is no problem with any of my USB's or PS3. I have tried it on many machines and it does this 50% of the time. If I keep messing with it, I can get it to be nice but then I worry about transferring large files to it because of this issue. Thanks for your help. PS:I have had the drive now for about 3 years but never use it too much, minimal and it's the 80GB model.

I would not trust this drive myself, especially when it makes a clicking sound and when it does not work 100% of the time, especially when it does the same thing on other computers.
If you do use this drive, then I suggest you also back up the files somewhere else other than on this hard drive in case it fails completely.

Why does my vio laptop make a whurring noice

Dear Reynold Bonaldi,

This is a common question that I get asked numerous amounts of times, and yet again the answer is clear.

In order to save on power consumption, and as a part of the design, most computers nowadays have a fan inside of them that mainly will only power up an start spinning when either operating system notices that the processing strain increases, or when the bios/ cmos chip notices more clock cycles per second. Both of these WILL drive up CPU core temperature, and this is what will kick start the fan into spinning.

whurring noise in itself is probably the fan only rotating is nothing more of a nuisance. However, it is recommended that you have your laptop physically internally inspected and cleaned, particles from dust, travel, food and other products can be sucked into the air intake, and build up inside the system over time, which eventually will act as an insulator and may even stop the fans from working. You will also notice performance decrease.

I hope this solves your query, and I look forward to any reply you may have

yours sincerely

Ouszen

Most likely the default format of the video that you are playing is not supported buy your receiver. You may try to go into the audio setup and switch it to another format and/or try a disk that supports other audio formats to see if you still have the problem. They any are always coming out with newer versions of dolby and dts. So some times the new version is not fully compatible with the older receivers.

Let me know i you have any more problems or questions

I don't know how to set the clock for a MA4203 model

I couldn't find the information for your particular model, but I did figure out the general procedure for Memorex alarm clocks currently in production:

  1. Make sure power is turned off (no radio or whatever playing). Press the Time Set button (on some models, this is the Skip Search Back button for an iPod docked in the unit).
  2. When the display blinks (on one model, the volume control knob lights up), press the Hour button (Vol. -) to set the hour, then press the Minutes button (Vol. +) to set the minutes. On the model with the light-up volume control, rotate the volume control knob to set the time.
  3. When you have the time set, either wait 15 seconds or press the Time Set button again to start the clock.
Setting the alarm works the same way on single alarm models, but the Alarm Set button may be the Skip Search Forward button. Dual alarm models have separate Alarm A and Alarm B buttons.

My Memorex 320 gb ultra travel drive is not working correctly; when I search a file, it finds it but then some of them don't open and I can hear a clicking sound on the disk like if it was searching for...

Sounds like the HDD is failing or failed. Try removing side cover to your PC (Switched off and unplugged from power supply) remove the CD cable / plug it into the ext HDD (Dismantled) boot into Windows.
If the PC cannot read the drive then it is damaged with loss of all files. If you can read it, I suggest you transfer backed up files to your PC before it fails completely.

Windows XP and Windows Vista and Windows 7 should have "built-in" support for this Memorex device. Just connect it to a USB-port, and see if it is recognized -- it should be!

Some pc's don't recognize my travel drive

I have a USB hard drive, and I have noticed that on some systems the current Draw on the USB port is too high for systems with unpowered / Low power USB ports, and therefore it doesn't work for that system,

this issue can be bypassed by using a "powered" USB hub

Ps3 skips while playing online

Purely and Simply, you need faster internet! Gaming often takes a connection of 10MBPS or greater for the best results. Try not to use wireless for online gaming. Try getting an Ethernet cord and connecting that to your PS3, it's actually must faster.
