I have been having problems with my new kingston 8 gig micro sdhc on my R4 III card. I was using an Adata 4 gig micro sdhc without any problems for over 6 months. I am using v3.07 firmware on the 4 gig and 8 gig. When I copied the stuff off of the 4 to the 8 I got garbage files listed on the games screen. I have been fighting with 2 8 gig cards with the same problem. The only way I have been able to get the r4 III to load so far is as follows:
1st remove any files that I don't have copies of.
2nd format card
3rd copy firmware to card
4th load up card on ds to make sure it loads
5th load a few (not all, only about 10 or so at a time) nds files and recheck on ds
6th rinse and repeat 5th until done

I hope this helps

SOURCE: freezed on loading screen !!!!!!!!!

Hi, the original R4 revolution will only worked up to kernel 1.16 or 1.17 or 1.18 (cant remember its one of them). Anything that is higher than that are for the R4 SDHC and others (different type). R4 Cards can be pretty confusing as there are many types (original v2, v3, SDHC, supercard...etc) and they all have their own website. Cant remember the link to the original one but you can get the software at

Hopefully this one should work for you

SOURCE: I have a Super Card R4 Revolution 3 for DS

The original "R4v2" card will only work with Micro-SD cards up to 2GB. However, R4 SDHC and R4v3 cards WILL accept 4GB cards and above.

To identify which version you have, check out this guide

That should hopefully sort you out!

If you are looking for a reliable place to buy DS and DSi cards from that will stock originals, I'd recommend using (I've used them myself). They test every card before sending which means you won't receive dud cards, and more importantly they have support before AND after your purchase by people who reply very quickly and in perfect English. Some of these dodgy websites take 4-6 weeks to deliver and never answer e-mails, so I'm glad these guys are different. Oh, and they guarantee to dispatch by the next working day, which always helps with speed and all. And they're recommended by a lot of the DS card help sites, too.

Good luck!

Hi, my r4 revolution "ndsl"

Yes you can. Check the link below and then download the latest Kernel that is right for your game cart:

After downloading the kernel, upload it to your game cart and then copy the games from your computer to the cart and start playing again.

Which kernal should I load for R4 Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSl/NDS)? There is an web address but when I log on this it is still not clear which to load. Also what are the steps I need...

Click here, scroll to the bottom of the page and download the "English Kernel v1.8" (I'm assuming you want English).

1) Firstly connect your micro SD card and then extract all the files from the zip file and copy them all to the card.

2) Next put your .nds files, mp3 etc onto the SD card (anywhere in the root of the card is fine).

3) Put your SD card into the R4, pop it into the DS/DSL and that should be it.

Hope this helps, any problems feel free to message me.

R4 problem

Go to download & unzip the kernel. This will create a folder with the operating system.Copy these files to the root of the SD card (There should be 2 files & 2 folders) After this, copy the .nds files also onto the root of the SD card, and the games should be visible & playable when you turn on the DS
NOTE: this will not work for the Nintendo DSi

Transfer the DS games

Download these things: DLDI patcher - NDS Backup Tool Wifi 0.31f - Filezilla
--First time only--
Install Filezilla. Now unzip the DLDI patcher's ZIP into a new folder. Unzip the NDS Backup Tool ZIP into another folder. Open up the NDS_Backup_Tool_Wifi.ini file and change the IP address of the DS if necessary (if unsure, leave as is and change it to or if it doesn't work) Open up the DLDI patcher, drag and drop the NDS_Backup_Tool_Wifi.nds file onto the patcher and then select R4DS (Revolution for DS) from the drop-down menu. Then, copy over the NDS_Backup_Tool_Wifi.nds file and the NDS_Backup_Tool_Wifi.ini file to your R4's memory card (location doesn't matter).
--After doing the above--
Run the tool and follow its instructions. When you have followed its instructions and you need to get the game sent to your PC, open up Filezilla then type in the following: Server: 192.168.*.10 (whatever you chose) Port: 21 (default) Username: anonymous Connect, then look for your NDS file and save it to wherever you want. Wait for the transfer to complete, then close Filezilla and restart your DS with your R4 inside. Repeat for each game.

R4 revolution card

Get this file extract the file with winrar, and copy the files to the DS card. The file structure should have is:
  • _system_
  • moonshl
You should now put your .nds files onto the root of the card also, and hopefully all should work OK for you
