Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Norcold N821 Refrigerator. Built after 11APR06. When using A/C voltage I get an error code "A." I had to reset the unit to get the gas portion to function. on the diagnostics menu it says A/C power is not present. I have 115 VAC present at the fuse. The fuse is good at 0.1 ohms. Is there a schematic available for the circuit board? I would rather replace a component than spend $200.00+ on a new module. Thank you for your assistance. Daniel Smith Williston, ND.

Yes there is a schematic but it may not be the best approach to the solution. You may be losing a chip on your board because of what I call bad batch and Quality Control failure. Also the boards owner may not want their board schematic published. Most times when people experience these related problem's you are having they share Q&A in their related group. Daniel here is that group and your answer may be found there. If ths is not the answer you wanted to hear please don't rate. I have found my way around the last 30 years asking those that have been there and done that and it works for me. The Norcold, Inc. refrigerators listed below have been recalled.
It is important to implement this safety enhancement to prevent an unsafe elevation in the temperature of the cooling unit should the unit fail in operation. This enhancement seeks to minimize the risk of injury or ***** due to fire.
Norcold Inc. has decided to recall certain 1200, 1201, 1210 and 1211 model gas/electric refrigerators with serial numbers from 315525 to 13088811, non-consecutively. 4. Call your dealer immediately.
The installation of the High Temperature Sensor will be at no cost to you.
Owners of recalled refrigerators should NOT operate their refrigerator until it can be professionally repaired by your dealer or a Norcold authorized service center.
If you have one of the recalled refrigerators and you:

Currently reside in the RV, you should immediately:

  1. Set the refrigerator controls to "OFF".
  2. Unplug the refrigerator through the service vent on the outside of the vehicle.
  3. Contact your dealer, a Norcold authorized service center or Norcold's Recall Center at 1-800-767-9101 as soon as possible to get assistance.

Thetford gas igniter burns but ignition is not seen by control unit

Without the make & model...
the only answer possible is a "TYPICAL" SWAG: Looks like NORCOLD is most likely your manufacturer (although I've also seen U-Line).

SPARES are good to have... (now you understand).

On-Line parts abound everywhere... It is likely an "electric"
(because of your control board statement).

I'll put up sample Pix from Amazon & eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Norcold+Refrigerator+Thermocouple

Your THERMO-COUPLE (flame monitor)... same (type) thing that always fails on our water heaters... typically costs $6 if you are buying one in advance... up to $24 (twice that for the "Refrigerator versions" $12 to $48) in you hour of need... Unless you call a "service" (plumber) person... Then just start adding on those ZEROs.

These also can use an INTERRUPTER (same price range)...
Buy them both... As you can tell... they are good spares to keep around (I always buy a NEW thermo-couple & put it on a nail
with a "NEW water heater installation (keeps evil spirits away).

I'd recommend you post the complete make, model & year...
Defective GAS appliances can be quite deadly... even if the work is done properly... improperly the sky (is quite literally) the limit...!!

Could NOT more strongly URGE... Buy and USE a good carbon-monoxide monitor/alarm.

Truly a LIFE-SAVER.

All gas utility companies will (or used) to QUICKLY send out their representatives to inspect/light gas appliances..

Historically this was always a FREE SERVICE...
(but sadly that the extent of my knowledge... HISTORIC).

Be safe... Comment me back if you need:
(never test for leaks with a match... My grand-daddy taught me that (course hair & eyebrows grow back... MOST of the time).

Norcold fridge in my motorhome

Norcold fridges are now part ofThetford one of the largest suppliers of mobile and marine products. You do not quote the model so not sure if a 3 way (gas/mains/12v) or AC/DC. The most common problem with all mobile fridges is the heater unit is faulty. Thetford have discontinued spares for a large range of norcold models. Information can be obtained on the Thetfold.com website.
Good Luck

Want to reset board on N611 norcold ref

The Norcold board reset is done by jumping a pin terminal to ground. There are several steps involved but it's all pretty straight forward. Here is an article on the steps of doing this: Norcold Refrigerator in Lockout Mode do you need to reset your power board

Norcold model 1200LRIM. Unable to select AC or LP mode. Auto is only option. Fridge frequently quits in Auto mode. No error codes. Display just goes blank. Battery connections are good; voltage is good....

Try to unplug it from the battery a few hours and then plug it back in and see if you are now able to select the AC or LP mode. There has been a recall on the 1200LRIM, The defect is a potential cooling unit leak caused during AC electric mode operation. Click on the link below to read more:

How do you reset circuit board on norcold refrigerator

No way to do that other than to unplug refrigerator for at least ten minutes and then plug back in. Don't use surge protector, power strip, or extension cord.

Frig will not cool

I had a similar problem. One thing that I need to know is is it cooling at all? If everything is operating, but no cooling occurs, you may have a bad board. This controls all of the components. Getting it replaced could be pretty pricey. Good luck, and please rate.
