Question about Husqvarna 7021 21Inch 160cc Honda GCV Gas Powered Lawn Mower ()

Open Question

Husqvarna Mower has Honda 190GCV engine. Worked great for about five years. This season I went to start it. It starts right up and sounds good then just dies in about 5-7 seconds. When I try to start it again it pops and sputters, backfiring out the intake and and exhaust and dies even quicker. One the thrid pull it won't even fire. The spark plug is then fuel fouled. I have spent several hours trying the following, but it does the exact same thing: 1) changed out the gas and oil with fresh, 2) Opened the carb, cleaned all jets and verified the float shut off valve is working correctly, 3) Checked for good regular spark, 4) Adjusted the valves and verified that the cam is in proper time with piston TDC, 5) check for proper function of the easy start feature (that relieves some compression during pull start phase, 6) tried it with and w/o air filter in case it was clogged, and 7) checked for proper movement of the auto choke. What the @#%^ else is there!!! HELP!

SOURCE: Honda 160cc mower engine starts and dies.

Your carbeurator is crudded up. Get a can of aerosol carbeurator cleaner at any auto parts store. Remove the air filter and spray two squirts of cleaner into the air intake. Start the engine and keep it running by squirting more carb. cleaner into the air intake. WIth a little patience you will clean your carb. and solve your problem.

Why does my float keep sticking on my Honda GCV160e lawn mower engine even after fitting a new carburetor?

I found a break down of the carby and I am wondering if the needle has been correctly assembled back to the float tang
there should be a small spring that attaches the needle to the float with a smaller in in the end of the needle that is coil spring loaded
This set is to provide a manual release of the needle of the seat when the fuel level falls and so prevents sticking and the coil spring arrangement is to prevent the needle allowing fuel in from the ripples in the fuel as it vibrates
Yes you bought a new carby and it ran well
However there may have been a hair in the fuel and that caused a problem that you sought to fix by taking it to a garage rather that a mower repair shop
garage mechanics seldom have an intimate knowledge of small engines and so reassembly of the carby may miss setting the needle to the float correctly
As to fuel gums etc , I would discount that as it is not old enough and left sitting long enough for that to occur
fuel left for long periods (6 months or more ) does deteriorate but an fuel stabilizer additive ( from any auto spares shop) will overcome that problem
My suggestion is that you fit an inline fuel filter to the tank hose and have the carby inspected by a honda small engine ( mower shop) to ensure that it is as was originally purchased

I have fuel escaping from the float bowl on my Lawn mower engine Honda GCV160e

Hi Julie, your bowl has a rubber gasket on it to keep from leaking, when you remove bowl, float should go all the way down, push up and down with your hand, reinstall bowl, remove your gas tank and clean with fresh new gas, install new spark plug and install new air filter, use regular gas.

Possible charging coil under the flywheel issue, or with the retifier, there is a tool called a negative shunt, this will quickly tell you if there is any charge to the battary from the engine

Lawn mower husqvarna problem

I have an XT721F self-propelled, auto choke Husqvarna mower. The first time I used it this season it ran for a short time and then just quit on me. I have since emptied out all of the gas and have replaced it with high octane 91, and have also added Seafoam to clean out any other issues. I mowed two weeks ago with no problems and went to mow again today and only made it through 2/3 of my back yard and the mower stalled out on me again. What's going on?

Honda push mower wont run right

I have the GVC160 motor....same problems....just found this info (see link),...and it turned out that Honda used a NGK spark plug that was defective,....I couldn't believe that is all it was...after changing the carb (new),...adjusting valves....etc.. I just went down and bought a new spark plug.....and it runs great!!
----
BEFORE go thru all of the advice and look at most other Honda web info.....go and buy a brand new spark plug and start with that! It appears Honda used a NGK spark plug in the past that fails after some time....giving the syptoms of problems with the carb, sticky valve, etc. Do not try to clean and use the old spark plug!! Check this out....it was the answer I was looking for after hours of work, reading, and talking to Honda dealers - http://forum.doityourself.com/outdoor-power-equipment-small-engines/261743-honda-lawnmower-starting-then-cutting-out.html

My Husqvarna LT1538D riding mower only charges the battery up to about 12.3 volts. So, I have to charge the battery, a new one, about twice to get through the cutting season. The dealer worked on it last...

On almost any engine you pull the flywheel and you will see the charging coil. Once out it can be tested by yourself or any competent electrician. Good luck. donnyb60

I took a wire and jumpered all of the switches until I found the one that would let the mower start. The switch was still good, but vibration or whatever had moved the plug just enough to lose contact. Plugged it on more firmlly - problelm solved. Thanks.
