"Clear carriage jam" persistent error...

Greetings. We're trying to service a client's similar model. After disassembling it, we found a worn composite gear located at the ink cartrigde cleaner moving plattform (located at the front right corner of the product; it has 2 rubber cushions inside that protects the cartridge's nozzles), and a little "L" shaped plastic piece with a hooked end, located near the paper out tray (we suppose it's used in pair with a similar one for pushing the printed paper out in its tray). We substituted the gear, glued back the plastic hooked piece, and reconnect all wire harnesses, leaving clear the sides of the equipment to see it working. We observed the motor assy. located at the cartrigde cleaner unit overturning and causing the rubber cushions plattform to get stuck (therefore causing gear damage). Then, because of this failure, the cartridge carriage returned violenty to the left corner, causing breaking of the little plastic hooks (they get out during the equipment startup, but only after the cartridge carriage returns to the right corner). To isolate the problem, we removed the ribbon cable of the cleaner box motor during startup; that eliminated the violent carriage left return, but the error still flashes on the product's LCD. We have concluded the main board (PWB), Q1636-20261A, is the culprit. Can anyone agree with us, or have another view to the right solution? Thanks in advance. well......my hp c4280 all in one printer keeps showing this message that says: "carriage jam clear carriage jam . press ok.........can anybody help me? i already tried cleaning the inside and put in new ink......! _stuck_!

I'd say that when doing surgery at this level, it's always handy to have the guide to surgery for printers.

I'd say that this patient is muerto.

Hello,
This can be said as a bit complicated problem. This problem is exhibited by the printer when the cartridge carriage mechanism is getting stuck at some end. I should advice that you make sure that the SS ( Service Station ) of the printer is not jammed / clogged. If yes, try cleaning it. It is also caused when the motor is malfunctions and tries to move the carriage beyond the path that it should go.
It is best recommended that you consult an authorized HP Service person for the solution of this issue.
Thank you.

My printer made a weird noise and now says "Open door Clear carriage jam and then press Enter". How do I clear a carriage jam? I have opened the top cover and usually the print cartridges move to the...

Issue The error ' Open Door, Clear Carriage Jam, and then Press Enter ' displays on the product. The following symptoms might also accompany this error:
* The product will not print. * Printing stops unexpectedly. * The carriage does not move.
Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. Solution one: Turn the All-in-One off and on again
1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product. 2. Press the Power button ( ) to turn the product on again.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution two: Clear any paper jam A carriage jam might follow a paper jam. Follow these steps to check for and remove any jammed paper. Step one: Check for and remove any loose paper from the input tray Remove any loose paper from the input tray, the output tray, and the automatic document feeder (ADF). CAUTION: Do not remove jammed paper at this stage. Step two: Clear a paper jam from the rear access door WARNING: Always clear paper jams through the back door if possible. To avoid tearing the paper and damaging the print mechanism, pull paper from the printer slowly and gently. Avoid touching the internal components of the printer.
1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer. 2. Remove the back door and remove as much jammed paper as possible.
3.Replace the back door and open the carriage access door. If there is paper visible that cannot be removed through the back door, gently pull it out from the front.
4. Reconnect the power cord and close the printer.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution three: Make sure that the carriage moves freely
1. With the product turned on, open the cartridge access door. The carriage might try to move into the access area. If so, allow it to move to that position. 2. Without turning off the product, unplug the power cord from the back of the product. WARNING: You must disconnect the power cord to move parts by hand without the risk of an electrical shock. 3. Look in through either the cartridge access door or the output paper tray to make sure that the cartridges are secure in the carriage and not loose. Also, make sure that there are no obstructions under or around the carriage to block it from moving. 4. Make sure the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right. Clear any obstructions found. You might have to reach through the output paper tray to access the carriage. 5. Close the cartridge access door and reconnect the power cord to the product. 6. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution four: Remove and reinsert the print cartridges Incorrect installation of the print cartridges can cause the product to show a false carriage jam. Follow these steps to remove, and then reinstall the print cartridges. Step one: Remove the print cartridges
1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product. 2. Open the front of the product to access the carriage. The carriage moves to the center of the product.
3. Unlatch the two print cartridge latches, and then raise the latches. 4. Remove the print cartridges.
Step two: Reinsert the print cartridges
1. One at a time, hold a print cartridge with the printed label up, and then slide the print cartridge into its slot. Repeat this step for the other print cartridge.
# NOTE: Insert the black print cartridge into the slot with the gray latch, and insert the color cartridge into the slot with the blue latch. # Grasp the end of the latch on the cartridge slot with your thumb, and then pull the end of the latch toward you. While holding the latch, press down on the top of the latch until it stops, and then release the end of the latch so that it catches under the tabs. CAUTION: To avoid damaging the product, do not force the latches into place.

3. Close the product cover. A message displays on the control panel to align the print cartridges. 4. Press the Enter button to begin the cartridge alignment. Two pages print. Follow the instructions printed on the second page to complete the alignment. 5. Try the print job again.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Carriage Jam message that wont clear

ok..so please try these steps..
1)turn off the printer..open the front door of the printer(where you see the cartridge)..try moving the carriage manually from right to left or from left to right..if you are able to move then it is a false carriage jam error message..if you are unable to move then the machine should be replaced..because this is a hardware issue..
2)connect the printer to the wall outlet..and then check for the error message..if you are still getting the same error message..
3)unplug the power chord from the back of the printer..press and hold OK and CANCEL button together..
4)while pressing those two buttons plug in the power chord to the back of the printer..
5)after you plug in the power chord do not release those two buttons untill screen goes blank..
6)once the screen is blank release those two buttons and turn ON the printer..
check for the error message..if its still the same then go ahead and replace the machine..because it is false carriage jam error message..
please try these steps and let me know if the solution has worked..

Carriage Jam error always - how do I fix it?

Try resetting the printer (pressing the cancel button and connecting the power supply, check in the HP website if this is correct for your printer model) , after the reset the printer will clear any errors and will recalibrate the mechanism including the paper feed mechanism and the carriage.
Also check if the carriage is moving freely by disconnecting the power and moving it by hand.

"Clear carriage jam" persistent error...

I got the error message about clearing the carriage and no matter how many times I turned it off, unpluged, turned in on again, checked for paper jams, etc, the printer could not get reset. But after much trial en error, the following procedure did the trick: Unplug the power cord and open the door. To the right side, you'll see the ink tray. Carefully pull it to the center and unistall the ink cartriges. Close the door, plug in the power cord and turn the printer on. It should ask you to install the left ink cartrige first. Do it and close the door again. Then it'll ask you to install the right cartrige. Do it as well and turn the printer off again. Turn it back on, let it initialized, and your printer should be ready to work again. I hope this work for you as it did for me. Good luck.
