I’ve been trying to get this printer to work for the last few days. Nothing I do will work, i think the problem has to do with the printer cartridge or the software. Could please tell me how to fix these problems?...printer model is Canon Pixma MP160

If you have windows service pack 2 running on your computer you will need to download new drivers for this to work Had the same issue a few years ago with same printer, drivers are incompatiable with SP2. Copy this link and click on external mirror to download drivers. See how you go, you might need to search for some more if this one doesn't work. http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Canon-PIXMA-MP160-MP-Drivers-xp64-101-Download-50482.html

Hi! Since a few days, I try to remove the E5 message error displayed on the LCD of the printer unsuccessfully. I found this solution piworks solution (start with printer off... etc.)but while I click the...

E5 means your cartridge error. May I know are you using original ink cartridge or yours has been modified before?
I assume you to refill your ink cartridge before because E5 error won't appear after replacing new cartridge.
So, you need to take out both of your ink cartridge and then use a clean cloth to wipe them. After that, slowly put in back into the printer. If the error is still there after wiping it, try to do it till the error is gone.
I had tested this way with my own printer and it works again without needed to buy a new ink cartridge.
All the best and good luck =)

New Cartrdige detection problem

I can't think of anything other than the obvious which is probably not of any use. Please make sure that you have the correct cartridge and that you have removed any tape or covering from the cartridge. Try turning the printer off and on after you put in the new cartridge. These are pretty simple but there are all I can think of. Good luck!

Same thing...

It sounds like the sensor unit that detects the amount of ink/new cartridge.

There's no point in trying to do a repair yourself unless you know where to look. If it is not under warranty, it's time for a new printer.

Won't print black

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.
