Question about Kingston (DTIU3/2GB) 2 GB USB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Kingston Data Traveller DT101 16 GB. Plug it in, no LED flicker as it usually had. PC assigns a drive letter as removable disk. Clicking drive letter results in "please insert disk". Second Data Traveller DT101 16 GB works fine. Tested across three Windows XP machines, one Vista home premium and one Windows 7 home premium pc. Drives are identical, purchased at the same time, and failed drive worked fine up until now. At last use, it was left in a pc as it was being shut down. Not a driver issue (other drive works fine). Not a connector problem on the mother board (all other drives work fine). Would like to recover files rather than simply reformat the dirve. Any odeas?

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts also
scroll to disk drives if you can see your drive + to expand right click you should see options update driver disable uninstall scan for hardware changes
select properties you should see options in the general tab to troubleshoot policies volumes driver and details under the driver tab you will have the options to check the driver details update driver rollback driver or uninstall
hope this helps

HOE TO FORMAT DATE TRAVELER

The simplest way to format a Flash Drive or a Pendrive is to format it from the My Computer without using any commands. Let's assume you are doing it on a Computer (Pc Desktop). Follow the instructions;
1. Connect you Data Traveler on one of the Usb port of your computer, and wait for few minutes.
2. After you know that it's been detected by the computer, open "My Computer" then right-click on the Data Traveler's Drive Icon e.g. Removable Disk (K:), etc.. and select "Format"
