Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

We have an LG WM2233HW washer that has had what sounds like dangerously severe vibrating since we moved into our new home. The traveling pins have been removed. Two separate repairmen have stated that the problem is because it is on the 2nd floor - it was in the last house. Last resort, we will select a different company and pay someone again to come out and try to fix it. My husband emailed LG and was told that the drum bearings need replacing. We are giving this a try ourselves. Can you tell me how to get the part off that has 23 bolts holding it in? I have removed the bolts, but the part won't budge. I don't see anything else holding it in! p.s. Thanks for posting the link to the blow-outs and parts list. The blow-out doesn't seem to call out the part number.

sounds like the bearings need replaced, when replacing bearings you need to replace all of them to ensure proper function and life longevity.

that comes out when you pull the entire drum assembly, which means taking apart the cabinet/chassis. not for the rushed of time, or weak of arm muscles, I can assure you.

SOURCE: bearing on front load washing machine needs replacing (Frigidaire

You will need to replace the tub rear shell/bearing assembly (part # 131525500).
To do this, practically the whole machine will need to come apart.
To remove the drive pulley, remove rear cabinet panel. Remove the pulley screw and pull back on the pulley (you may need to giggle it as you pull to remove it).
For the shock pins, grab the open end with a pair of vise-grips. On the "pointy" side of the pin press the tab in with your finger (if you can't push the tab in slide a 9/16" socket onto it) and pull the pin out with the vise-grips (twist back and forth slightly as you pull).

A qualified tech could replace the rear shell/bearing in about 1.5 - 2 hrs. I can certainly give you more help if you need it, let me know.
Good luck!

Washing machine

is the machine new or newly installed, check on the back to ensure the travel pins or bars are removed. when the machine is new or when moved the packers may have replaced the movement pins this stops the drum swinging around and damaging the outer casing. if used with them still in the drum can not swing freely and the whole machine will vibrate. if this is not the case, the washing maybe uneven in the drum casuing it to vibrate. if either of these is not the case the drum maybe unbaleanced or the weights may have dislodged. then will have to go in for repair.

I hope this was useful.

Unit is level, yet vibrates/thumps terribly at the beginning of spin and other cycles. It has moved itself several inches already, and I have no clue what is wrong with it..

When my washer did that, I found that the shocks that hold the tub were bad...

Check out this tip I wrote about the noise and vibration that front loadwashers can make..

I recently moved and the movers removed two bolts from the back of the machine...should I replace those bolts

No do not replace the shipping bolts. I assume you have a front loading washer. The tub is secured by bolts during transport. Then they have to be removed so that the washer will operate properly without damaging the machine.

Many machine manuals are available online. For example, LG washers manuals are available at their site and under more information for models sold by Home Depot ( The LG front loading washers use 4 bolts with retainers. If they are not removed, the machine will have severe vibration and noise. The vibration can damage the unit.

I hope this helps.

(if you have an top loading washer, shipping bolts are less common. If you provide the model of the washer, I'll see if it is one for which I know the shipping instructions.)

My LG WM2233HW vibrates and crawls forward during the spin cycle, it is not on a pedestal, does anyone nkow if the pedestal will stop this?

Not sure what pedestal you refer to ,but vibration and movement is often caused by machine not being level / not stable initially . With machine off ,hold the top firmly and see if you can rock it in any direction , if you can , put some packing under the base to stop this , then operate machine , it should be better.

LG washer vibration

My wife and I originally had the same problem, and it didn't help that the washroom was a slick tile floor. First add as much weight as possible to your pedestal. We have ours full of detergents, bleach, fabric softener, etc., and have several of each so that the pedestal is completely full. When mounted on the pedestal, the washer is quite top-heavy, and the added weight in the bottom helped immensely. Second, make sure your washer is level, both the feet resting on the pedestal and the feet of the pedestal itself, and tighten the secondary rings so the feet don't vibrate out of place. Last, I purchased some thin rubber padding (approximately the thickness of leather) from Home Depot in the carpet aisle. Cut some small squares and place one under each foot of the pedestal. This gives the feet some additional "grabbing power" on slick floors.

LG WM2233HW washer plumbing rattle.

Hello Justin,
What you are hearing is what they refer to as "Water Hammer'.. and aside from the noise.. it probably won't do much damage however home improvement stores such as Home Deot and Lowes sell add on devices that are installed onto your supply lines to absorb the shock when water is cycled on and off... You'll need to tell them exactly what size pipe you have and ( depending on how familiar you are with plumbing) you may want to hire a plumber to install.. They may have a water hammer add on that fits onto the screw on water lines.. Hope this helps..
