Question about Garden

1 Answer

The tractor was running just fine, shut it off and it would not restart. I can jump across the solenoid, it turns over great, choke it, smell gas, but no spark. tried to bypass the interlock in the seat, and then in the clutch, still no fire. I have significant electrical/automotive experience. I have been unable to find a wiring schematic for this old tractor. It's been great; but now it has stumped me. Hi you mdont say what make or model tractor you have . try disconnecting the kill switch wire directly at the engine and then try restarting it if it starts the problem is in the safety switches or ignition key or a shorted wire -- if it doesnt start and still no spark then test the coil .

I Hope this Helps Andrew A

I have a kohler 25 hp on a simplicity tractor. Turn the key nothing but I can jump across starter the engine starts then shuts itself off in about twenty seconds.new starter and switch

Sounds like you may have two issues..one electrical and one mechanical..
When you say jumping the starter, do you mean the starter solenoid? If you can jump the solenoid and the engine will start, you have a bad solenoid..
The running for twenty seconds is about how long it takes to burn the fuel out of the carb bowl.
The needle and seat need to be cleaned/replaced.. this is the valve that controls the flow of gas into the carb... if its not working properly it will do exactly as you described.. you may need to replace the needle..the seats are sometimes pressed into the carb body and cannot be removed... the needle is rubber coated at the point of contact.. it wears out so the seat does not.. sometimes if the engine has set up for extended time.. cleaning might fix it!!
Good luck!

I have a 601 farmaster put a new battery in still well not start.Could it be the solenoid.

Use a push button or a pair of channel locks and hold across the solenoid terminals - if it turns over then it would be the solenoid. Choke it and it may start

2004 JD X595. Has started and ran fine until last week. My brother was using the mower was turned off and would not restart. He jumped it and started fine. He then mowed for 10min and the deck shut down....

Sounds like a Charging system: alternator problem... have your Auto-zone check for your alternator if it is shorted...take the alternator off or haul the whole tractor to the store...they will run a free test...

Riding mower wont run unless choke is full on and dies when choke is shut off

Probably a failed or disconnected fuel shut-off solenoid. It's located on the bottom of the float bowl. Check that there is battery voltage present when ignition is on. If so, solenoid has either failed, or jammed due to gum build-up.

8N's are positive ground negative run...hence the negative wire to the battery. Try jumping the starter solenoid and see if you have a bad solenoid. A second answer could be in your battery. You have a 6 volt battery so be sure to check the charge on the battery.

AS SOON AS IT DOES THIS, TAKE A HEAVY DUTY JUMPER WIRE AND JUMP ACROSS THE TWO LARGE POSTS ON THE SOLENOID, IF IT CRANKS, REPLACE THE SOLENOID IF IT DOESN'T THEN CHECK YOUR BATTERY TO SEE IF IT HAS 12 VOLTS OR MORE. IF IT DOES YOU NEED A NEW STARTER AND IF IT ONLY HAS 50 HOURS ON IT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET WARRANTY UNLESS THE WARRANTY TIME IS UP

Cub cadet 1024 wont turn over

try taking an insulated screw driver and jumping across both terminals on the solenoid, if the engine turns over, the solenoid is bad and will need to be replaced
