Yes, Do Not Turn Up Too 500's Way Too Dangerous, The Problem Might Be That Inside Some Cords May Be Rubbing Wrong Or, You Have A Short Cord, If Not Any Of That It Is Probally Broke

Hello radio,
Welcome to FixYa. My name is John, and I will be assisting you with your issue today.
Hope you replaced the diode in the right direction! There a few capacitors in that area
you need to check, but first, turn the unit Over and check that there are no burned
Trace in that area, if so, repair it. Check that the in-line fuse is good also. Hope this
was helpful to you and your Comments and Testimony's are always welcome here.

Start with the antenna that you have hooked to it, is it grounded, is the coax in good shape, is the connector in good shape. stuff like that.

My cobra 29 NW/WX won't power up.

Open the case and hook power inside past the power socket. They do go bad from time to time.

Also, if you never checked the SWR, and you noticed the ant ligh come one ever, you could have burned up your final. You now have a paper weight.

Oh and the protection diode is D28 not 23. It should be a big black one. Also, D8 is another protection diode. they are the only big black diodes in the radio.

Cobra 29 nw

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls check the final and pre-final (TR15 & 15) and that it gets modulated TX+12 through D8 from T1 which in turn is the output of IC4 through C48.

Perhaps a schematic diagram may be of further help.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Cobra 29 issues

Check D23 and D28. They are polarity protection diodes. It could also be the power knob.

Capacitor C-82, which connects the output of the driver to the input og the final, is leaky or shorted, putting +12 volts on the base of the final, which blows it immediately.
