Your motor bearings are failing. It is most often caused by a leaking pump seal. It is a relatively inexpensive repair if it is caught early enough; before the shaft is damaged from the corrosive water eating into the steel.

Take it to a local electric motor repair shop for inspection. It will likely need a set of 203 bearings for the motor and a mechanical seal for the pump. All told, depending on the labor rates, it should be less than $75. You could try to repair this yourself however if you are not familiar with the process it is money well spent having someone who is do the repair for you.

Loud chatter on start and rattle from timing chain area

The timing chain area also takes in the alternator and water pump. To isolate the source of the noise, use the old mechanics trick.

Place a 3 foot 1/4 inch brass rod against the flap at the opening of your ear and push until it closes. Place the other end of the rod against various engine components and listen. The noisy problem will conduct the noise up the rod to your ear and you can hear quite precisely where the problem is. Much safer than laying your ear all over a running engine.

You can also loosen the fan belt and run the engine without alternator or water pump (briefly) to see how that affects the problem. Chatter on start makes me think of starter and Bendix gear problems. Sounds like a 2 person diagnostic team to me; one to start the car and one to listen and probe.

Don't know if Subaru Forrester has an engine that has valve interference at piston Top Dead Center. If it is and the timing chain breaks, you are looking at major $$ to recover.

I keep adding water no signs off leaks water pump is noisy but not leaking could its still be the pump?

if the water pump is noisy it should be replaced anyways.it could be the pump that is leaking and not noticable.the system should be pressure tested and inspected to see were a leak could be.

Loud sound from engine - steam from engine - leaking coolant - still starts, but noisy

Sound like the bearing in your water pump is clanking. Get the timing belt changed the same time as your water pump.

Motor is very noisy

Noisy motor indicates bearings on the shaft are going bad. This happens when you have a shaft seal leak and the leaking water is getting to the bearings. Sounds like you need to replace shaft seal and set of shaft bearings. Easy fix is to replace the motor only for about $150.00 for motor replacement. Around $40.00 for seal and bearings and some of your time.

Is the machne noisy? If not, it may soon become noisy. Sounds as if the grease seal protecting the basket spindle bearings is leaking. soon the bearings will fail

Clattering sound when a/c is on and accelerating. goes away when i turn the a/c off. Clattering is under the hood, but i can't locate it.

Sounds like the a/c compressor has internal damage .
I would take to a shop , Let them diagnose it by recharge the system with dye. Then check for leaks, The orfice tube has a small filter in it. IF the filter is clogged with metal shavings the compressor is damaged internally. The correct repair will be a compressor, drier and expansion tube or orfice tube.

Good luck .

Water leaks during brew cycle

you have a split in or a loose conection where the water pipe conects to the boiler so water comes from there and the lack of pressure is making the machine work harder which makes it sound bad
