with all 3 on high it gets to about 500 but today is rather windy so I blocked the windward side of grill with part of the kids skateboard ramp. that is how i got it to 500. just didnt seem hot enough but maybe i'll keep the ramp section handy.

That, my friend depends on what flame height the burners are set on and how long the lid is closed. If left long enough, I suppose it could reach 550 to 600 degrees. Which is more than what's necessary to seer a steak. Why do you ask? Having a problem with the grill not heating well?

500 degrees is more than ample to cook /grill just about anything. What exactly are you trying to grill that requires a constant 500 degree temperature? Keep in mind, the temperature at the grilling surface is hotter that what the grill thermometer shows. The thermometer is reading the air temperature. If you want to test this theory, buy an inexpensive oven thermometer that can be placed on an oven rack. But, in the case, your going to place it on the gill grate. Once the temperature reaches 500 degrees on the grill's thermometer, open the lid and look at the temp on the oven thermometer. You'll see a higher temp on it.

Weber gas grill heats up high when on low settings

After making sure your knobs are installed properly examine the full length of all burner tubes. You will be looking for areas of corrosion or damaged metal. Holes that are larger than they should be will cause too much LP expulsion resulting higher temperatures. Replacement parts, schematics, customer support and much more is available at the official Weber site. https://www.weber.com

Temperature control no longer works and grill is too hot

I would say that the thermocouple or thermostat has failed or the thermocouple may not be in the correct position. The thermocouple is the metal wire with a bulb on the end which usually sits in the cooing area, clipped to the sides or back.. This senses the heat and turns down or turns off the gas, to maintain which temperature you have selected.

High is the highest and hottest setting/temperature. Depending on how long you preheat the gill with the lid close, will determine what the maximum temperature will be.If it's not heating well, the burners may need to be removed and cleaned. The link below is for the Baby Q Model. Pay particular attention to the Annual Maintenance Section, as it will show you how to remove the burner(s) and clean them.

Unfortunately, I could not find the Model Number 8006, that you listed. However, I have included a link to the Owners Manual section for Weber Grills. Check the model number again to make sure it's correct and go to the link below.

I've only used Cotton Wood twice. The first time, I had the same experience. The second time, I added a few pieces of all natural, lump charcoal and it kept the Cotton Wood burning at the proper temperature. I suspect the same procedure will work for you.

Can not light gas grill - Weber 8006 Have done all suggested thing such as full tank of gas, regulator checked, check for spider webs. No gas seems to be reaching burners.

This grill is definitely worth fixing. I have had similar problems with several weber 8006 grills. It is usually something obstructing or diluting the flow of fuel. If you have a new tank and your igniter is working (you have tried using a propane hand-held lighter, I assume) then it seems that it must be either the hose/gas line or the burner tubes. I would first check the main tubes and cross tube carefully for places that are rusted through. Holes can lower the pressure in the tubes and make them difficult to light (try just turning on and lighting the front burner). I would then clean the tubes at the spider trap/air vent end, which is nearest the propane tank. The spider traps, if you have them, are little plastic cages and the edges snap together. You can use a vacuum to gently clean out the tubes. If this does not work, you can buy or borrow a similar, but working hose. As they say, "it is always the last thing you try that fixes the problem".

Silver C 2000 Model heats to 420 degrees with all 3 burners on Low. Normal? Weber support service has given me conflicting information. With 2 burners on Low it heats to 310-320 degrees.

That's fairly common with the lid closed and a day that is not too cool. Keep in mind that a gas flame is about 800F. Try using only one burner on low or between on and high to get a lower temperature. This is a grill, not a smoker or slow cooker.

It will run cooler with a large amount of food.

Inconsistent heat problems Weber Grill

If your propane gas delivery system is equipped with a pressure regulator, check it or replace it. If no regulator, check the following:

* The gas jets for any obstructions, including carbon build up (they can be cleaned with an automotive fuel injector or carburetor cleaner with a lttle help from a brush bristle - do not try and use a drill or other mechanical means)

* The gas connections, and make sure they are all tight

* The gas manifold(s) to be sure they aren't partially obstructed with insect nests, especially cocoons

* The burner(s) to be sure they are clean and that the flame is even
