Question about Panasonic NN-L931WF 1200 Watts Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Hi, I have a 1200W 44 litre Panasonic Microwave Oven model NN-S752WF. My wife was cooking some vegetables when she called me. The vegetables were still cold and there was a burnt plastic / insulation type smell and the top cover of the microwave on the right hand side behind the control panel was too hot to touch. I disconnected the power lead and after it cooled I removed the cover. The only thing I could see that looked burnt was the plastic shroud that holds the light on the left of the magnatron. The bottom part of the white plastic shroud at about 2 o clock above the shroud securing screw, is melted onto the bottom left of the magnatron. I have since put a glass of water in the oven to try it. I set 1 min, started it and noticed the light did not come on and it stopped after about 20 secs with no beeping and the glass of water was still cold. There you have it now please what is the problem and how to fix? Thank you, Rick.

Hi Paul, I appreciate your concerns. I was just wondering if in fact it was the magnatron at fault or something else that maybe controls the magnatron. If it is the magnatron itself I know I can get a new one and install it easy. It is just with the cost of a new magnatron I want to make sure first before I get one. What are your thoughts.
    Thanks again,
    Rick.

It seems to me that the magnetron has burnt and failed. So if there is no heating please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is faulty, the temperature cut off is faulty or the main capacitor is short. It is also quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off. If there is soft spots on the magnetron and visible damage seen on the magnetron then it has failed. Finally after drying and a full clean up ,
keeping clear of the microwave, switch on, use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron is faulty. replace with same type.

Hi.

any signs of extreme heat, that close to the magnetron, could suggest a fault in the magnetron itself.
this is not something i would recommend trying to repair yourself due to the risk of radiation emission.

any problems near the magnetron, should be repaired by a microwave repair engineer who can test the machne to ensure that there is no harmful radiation emitted.

sorry i cannot be more helpful with this, but i feel that this is something that needs to be repaired professionally for safety reasons and i would not be acting responsibly if i encouraged you to try this repair yourself

    hi.
to get that hot, my guess would be a magnetron fault, but the wiring around the light fitting should be carefully checked as well

During cooking,microwave stopped,no power.

Not good news; Panasonic uses a technologically superior power supply with higher efficiency but an overall worse record than those using a 'linear' supply with far fewer parts and a good track record of reliability.

The modern (switched mode) power supply places a lot more stress on components and requires more and higher quality parts than the old-style circuit.

What cause the wattage difference?

Wattage is based upon voltage & current. I would think that on the 1300W unit, either the voltage or the current is higher than that which is used on the 1200W unit.

Perhaps the magnetron in the 1300W unit is being driven harder. Are the fans the same size?, The magnetron in the 1300W could be running harder and they have a larger fan in it.

In any event, if the part numbers are the same, you should have no trouble using one units parts to fix the other.

Good luck!

Pansonic model nn-p295 over the range microwave oven

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here:
