First, my thermostat wouldn't shut off either my heat pump or my furnace (it runs both). Thought it was an issue with the thermostat...got a new one. Worked like a charm for 1 day. Now, there is a clicking noise coming from the heat pump - it did it at first when trying to turn it on....now, when it's warmer, it will turn on, then start to do it. Doesn't seem to be putting out hot air now. Any ideas? The thermostat came with a new box that sits inside the ceiling and it's been replaced, but it's still doing it. HELP!

Sounds like your unit may be tripping on a pressure switch due to low refrigerant or a dirty outdoor coil. You may be able to look through the cover with a flash light to see if the inside of the outdoor coil is stopped up. Otherwise, you will have to pull the cover off. If low on refrig you will need someone to check it that has the right tools.

Our furnace keeps shutting off. I'm having to manually turn the thermostat back on. New filter and batteries have been put in!

If your furnace is shutting off and you are having to manually turn the thermostat back on, there could be a few different issues causing the problem. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the thermostat settings: Make sure the thermostat is set to the correct temperature and that the furnace is set to "heat" mode.
  2. Check for a clogged air filter: A clogged air filter can restrict the airflow to the furnace, causing it to shut off. If you have recently replaced the air filter and the problem persists, try cleaning or replacing the filter again to see if that resolves the issue.
  3. Check the furnace's limit switch: The limit switch is a safety device that shuts off the furnace if it becomes too hot. If the limit switch is malfunctioning, it can cause the furnace to shut off. You can try resetting the limit switch by turning the furnace off and then back on again.
  4. Check for any visible issues: Inspect the furnace and its components for any visible issues that may be causing the furnace to shut off. This can include debris or foreign objects that may have gotten stuck in the furnace, or damage to the furnace or its components.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, it may be necessary to have the furnace serviced by a professional. A technician will be able to diagnose the problem and determine the necessary repairs.

Rheem 80 plus RGDC model will run for a couple minutes and cycle off. I thought it might be the flame sensor and replaced it. Still same issue.

So the furnace cycles off after running for s few minutes. Does it come back on automatically or are you shutting the power off and back on? Are the thermostat batteries new? You might take the thermostat out of the circuit and see if it stillacts up. Clean the pressure switch port

Honeywell RTH2300 says Heat On, but furnace isn't running.

Your tstat is not the problem. I've not yet worked on an oil furnace. I'm way down south. But either way, if your tstat was calling for heat(heat on), and you pushed a reset at the furnace, more than likely that reset is a safety. OK to reset, but now what ever that safety is preventing from happening, has failed and can not be reset until repaired. The reset should be an automatically opening switch upon unsafe operation. And manually closed to "reset" the safety. That safety is connected to something that is not working properly. Hope this helps!

Will a th5000 work with a ruud dual fuel

Are you talking about a pro 5000 Thermostat??? if so then NO it will not work. With this stat you do not have a temperature lock on the heat pump. Say you don't want the heat pump to run below 25 degrees. it won't shut the heat pump. And you don't want the heat pump to run at the same time as the furnace. With the Pro 8000 3 heat and 2 cool thermostat you can lock out the heat pump at 25 degrees outside an turn the furnace on. You will have to install an outdoor thermostat hooked up to the pro 8000 it usually comes with the stat. Honeywell products.

Furnace problem

SHUT THE POWER OFF TO THE FURNACE, REMOVE THE THERMOSTAT FROM THE THERMOSTAT SUB BASE TAKE THE WIRE THAT IS ON THE R TERMINAL AND THE WIRE THAT IS ON THE W TERMINAL AND CONNECT THEM. TURN THE POWER BACK ON. IF THE FURNACE COMES ON AND WORKS FINE THEN ITS IN THE THERMOSTAT.

I have two heatpumps up and downstairs and two furnaces (piigy back). At times my pump outside freezes up and cold air blows in the house. I was told that I needed a kit to tell my furnace to turn on when...

Hi,
A couple of things... First your furnace should be 2nd stage on a 2 stage thermostat and if the heat pump don't keep up your furnace should be coming on anyway...If you get a Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 series thermostat for 2 stage heat pump operation and an outdoor sensor, you can have the thermostat shut down the heat pump and start the furnace at what ever temperature you decide...

Secondly, you have a problem with the defrost cycle on your heat pump(s) If they are frosting up that bad at 40 degrees than the defrost is not working on them. If they are hookup up right, every fours hours or so they will go into A/C mode and heat the oudoor coil up to melt the ice off of them. The furnace should be heating while that is happening. Sounds like they really don't know what they are doing when it comes to heat pumps...

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

The furnace wont turn on even though it says it is

not all digital thermostats are compatible with the manufacturers circuit control boards in the furnace. Hunter has had this problem several years ago. Other than that you may have miss wired the unit. usually the furnace is used as backup heat (during defrost) or emergency heat if your heat pump konks out. Are you switching to emergency heat for a furnace call?

Electric furnace blows cold air before and after warm air.

It is normal. Your house has to go down a couple more degrees because the heat pump is not working. You can solve this by rewirng you thermostat. Take off the wire that goes to Y and tape off. Then take the wires that are marked w and e or w1 and put the wires to yellow. Do not run ac with it wired like this. If you need more information please post me back
