Question about Philips 32MF231D Television

2 Answers

Have a Magnavox 32mf231d 37 flatscreen. It has been working fine for the last few years, and we purchased it used. However, my wife said that it was on the other day, she went down the hall and when she came back the TV was off. No pop, no smell, no fire. I disconnected the power and all the component cables, and removed the back panel and board covers. There did not appear to be any char marks or melted pieces anywhere. I removed the fuse and took it to Fry's Electronics and a gentlemen tested the fuse and it was in fact "bad". I purchased the exact same fuse and reinstalled it, but after replacing everything, and trying a new power outlet, the TV will not turn on. Any thing I missed?

PJ and Scouse. Yes and true. I bought a 5 pack of fuses for that very reason. All the capacitors appear to be perfect by looks. Next step, ohms test. I'll try to post the results when I get a day off.

Did you check the fuse in the plug ? Also the tv may have blown the new fuse when you switched it back on

Try taking it for a walk, or sing happy songs to it.
Depression is a common problem with today's LCD panels.
Most cases go untreated.
Talk to your doctor about receiving medication that may be able to help with it's symptoms. Side effects include nausea, diarrhea, genital warts, hemorrhoids, and an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours.
Do not watch your TV if yo are pregnant or using an MAOI, as these combinations have been known to cause permanent death.

Hold a flashlight up to the tv while the tv is on. If you see a picture your CFL is burnt out.

There two caps on the power supply that the tops will swell up. Change them both and that should get you going.

An earlier post of the smaller model of this with the same problem said to remove the metal cover over the power supply.

I have the 26MF231D and it worked great afterward (even though you can't mount it)

Here is how you remove the cover.
