Question about Televison & Video

I have a Panasonic TH42PD25 with a problem where the picture is shifted horizontally to the left about 8 inches. This 8 inch area is black. It does not matter what source I use the problem persists? I'm hoping to repair the problem myself if I can find someone that has experienced the same problem and found the solution. Thanks

Thank you gopakumarg43 for your concern but I'm not the novice you assume! I know you are trying to help but I've talked with the factory service people and completed the service reset and yet continue to search for a solution to this problem. I know it is a component failure and I thoroughly understand all of the ramifications of which you have attempted to alert me! I'm not looking for the simplistic condescending information you give a novice. I do however wish to hear from someone who has experienced a similar problem and has found a remedy. Thanks for your efforts & concern

Thank you Solutions58 for your simple observations. However I don't believe this is a sync issue. It does not have sync related attributes I've seen. I have the Schematics and all of the necessary tools to make the repairs. I have posted this request for help to acquire information from anyone that has experienced this symptom and ascertained just what caused the problem. If you have this kind of information please help I would appreciate it.

1. This issue stems from the horizontal sync. this is related to the either the horizontal circuit on the main board or the stabilizer circuitry in the that section/
It will take a schematic, test equipment and component replacement to fully ascertain the section on the main board that is giving you the 8" screen area that is black.
2. Your Flat Panel TV will need service.

Hello

this fault is called h "horizontal shift". This is not a user adjustable one, and not a simple proble as you consider. To rectify this fault, you have to go to in its "Service Mode' to make adjustments with. As the picture in your TV is shifted to a distance of 8 inches, there must be some componet failure assciated with this. With service mode adjustments, the position of shift can only be adjuste to a little, say 1 inch or so. Therefore, a component failure is sure. it may be in horizontal synchronization section or synchronisation serperator IC section. Both these sections will seem more complicated even to and experienced service technician.
So I advice you to not to make any further adjustments, or attempt to repair it by yoursef in the TV, as it may make things more worse. Please do not use this TV till this fault is rectifed, as there is a chance to get its video outout DAC to get damaged, and if it gets out, it will cost much more to you, as there is no repair to this DAC section, only card replacement can be done.
Get the TV repaired by a "well experienced" serivce technician, or contact the neareset Panasonic Service Center to you. Good Luck
Thanks for using Fixya.

My sony tv 14 inches model. KV-14jrs in when you switch on the picture shown is black with horizontal line. What could it be the problem?

Line left to right in middle of screen is a vertical circuit failure.

A solder connection, a bad chip in that area----14 inch set not likely to be worth the cost of repair.

My screen is x X y inches. The windows page doesnt fit into it. There is one inch of black space on the monitor on the left and one inch of my windows screen is lost on the right!!!!!!!

With the on-screen controls, select Auto-Adjust. This should set suitable defaults based on the incoming signal. If you are using the VGA connector and the position still needs to be adjusted, use the on-screen controls to shift the displayed image to the proper location (under Display Settings -> Horizontal Position).
