Question about Ducane Affinity 3100

1 Answer

I bought the Ducane Affinity 3100 from Ace Hardware in 2009. The paint on the inside of the grill lid has started to bubble, peel and fall off. Is this covered by the manufactory warranty. Is it still safe to use? Thanks for your help in this matter.

According to the Owners Manual for your and the reading of the Warranty, No the paint flaking under the grill hood is not covered under warranty (see link below). As far as safety of using it is concerned ... only if you clean all the flaking paint and any residue, and repaint it with High Heat Grill Paint. This should only be applied after all greasy residue has been removed and only in light coats. Several light coats, in fact. It should be allowed to thoroughly dry between each coat, before applying the next coat. Once the final coat is applied, wait at least five days before using the grill. Be sure no paint gets down of the cooking grates or the burners. You can get the High Heat Grill Paint , form the same Ace Hardware store you bought the grill from. I believe Ace carries Krylon, which is one of the best High Heat Paints.

Direct Grilling is putting the items you're grilling directly over the burner(s) . Indirect Grilling is preheating the grill, turning off one or two burners and place the food over the burners that are OFF. In direct grilling requires cooking with the lid closed.

One burner wont light of the 3

Is the igniter not sparking or is gas not getting to that burner? Have you tried to match light that burner? Those three things is where you start troubleshooting the problem

If the igniter is not sparking, it could be that the igniter is covered with cooking grease or the wire to the igniter has come loose either at the igniter or the igniter module. And simply needs to be reattached (pushed back on).

If the burner won't match light, than it's not getting gas and should be removed and thoroughly cleaned. And while you're at it, remove and clean all the burners and the venturis valves.

Removing the buner burners on a Ducane grill is a bit of a task, so I have included a link to your Owners Manual to assist you. Pay particular attention to the section Annual Maintenance, starting on page # 28.

Paint inside lid peeling off when I cook

From Weber.com Don’t worry, it’s not paint. The inside surfaces of our grill lids are not painted, they are coated with baked-on porcelain enamel which cannot peel. What you are noticing is a deposit of grease and smoke that collects during normal use. During use, the grease and smoke vapors slowly oxidize into carbon and collect on the inside of your lid. This deposit will eventually peel, and looks very similar to paint. The peeling normally starts in the center of the lid and spreads outward. It may come off in sheets or flakes, and is shiny on one side and dull on the other. These carbon deposits are non-toxic. But you might want to regularly remove the build-up. Fortunately, the peeling is easy to remove. Simply brush off all loose particles with a brass brush before you start grilling. To prevent future build-up, after every grilling session, while the grill lid is warm—not hot—wipe it with paper towels or a mild soap-and-water solution.

Paint on top inside of lid is peeling off.

Remove the paint. The heat will dry the metal and grease from cooking will keep it from rusting, if it's iron. If it's aluminum it's not a problem.
