Question about Orvis Belt Loop (508P0000)

2 Answers

My father has an Orvis SS Caseback 3ATM Water Resistant pocket/belt watch which the pins to the belt loop connection to the watch have broken. I can not find any other model number on the watch and we would like to get it repaired, but do not know where to go. We live in Lancaster County, Pa and my father lives in an assisstant living facility in /millersvile and misses his watch. Thanks Jeff Miller

I think the best way to handle this is take it to a watch repair place they will have places on their card files that have manufacturers who they can refer you to get the parts for replacement or even find a way to fix it for you. I did do a online search for specific parts for this watch and there is nothing there but sellers of the watch not parts. So your best bet is a watch repair place and it should not cost you a fortune to fix that part. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Hi jmiller9299,

If you purchased the watch from an authorized retailer they can provide you with exclusive access to Oris's special parts and expertise. You may go ahead contact your retailer right away. I look up for any Oris service center in Lancaster, PA however, there is none. And there's only one service center in US which is in Stoneham, MA. There's an authorized Oris retailer I found which is:

Brent L. Miller Jewelers
1619 Manheim Pike
US 17601 Lancaster
tel.: 717-397-6998

If you want you can try to contact them if they can as well provide you further assistance for the repair of the watch. Since this store is authorized by Ortis they have access with parts.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

I have a lucien piccard watch, purchased probably in the 70's. Would it be water resistant?

Yes, I think that your Lucien Piccard Watch is water resistant until now as long that the gasket of the caseback is still intact. and for you to find out that the gasket of your watch is still intact then, you should bring your watch to the expert to check your watch gasket. i hope i solve your problem.

How do I remove the back to a Steinhauser Dunn Horizon watch. I need to change the battery.

Your watch has a press down caseback, you need to get a knife or watch caseback knife and look for the depression ot notch on the edge of the caseback, slide your knife up tight to the notch and pop the knife edge up like a lever, the caseback should pop off.

Umm..mine is called.."FOSSIL 10 ATM" there's also something written at the back saying, "stainless steel caseback, next a water symbol, then 10ATM..I'm just wondering what this means?? can I wear this...

10 ATM means that the watch is water resistant to 10 atmosphere's of pressure.
Long story short, yes you can swim with it. Yes, you can shower with it too.

Want to change 377 battery in Embassy Men's Watch but don't know if back snaps off or screws off......seems like it should be more obvious than this. Can anyone help?

Casebacks can be attached in several ways. The most common is a snap-on type. The back will be smooth and if you look closely around the edge you should see a small slot somewhere along the edge where you can insert the edge of a caseback removal knife - it looks like a small oyster shucking knife - to pry the case open. The caseback me be very difficult to snap back on and require the use of a caseback plier or pressing tool. If the caseback is held in place by screws, you can carefully unscrew them using a good quality jeweler's screwdriver. the real cheap mini-divers will bend and scratch the watch. Another common method is a screwdown caseback. You will see indentaitions on the edge of the case back to recieve a caseback wrench to unscrew it. If your watch is water resistant, don't forget to replace the gasket as they are only good once. Most watch shops will replace the battery while you wait for about $8 so that may be your best bet.

Remove the back, to replace the battery

You need either a caseback knife or caseback wrench depending on whether it's a screwdown or snap-on back. If it's a snap-on, you'll also need a caseback presser to put it back on. Using the wrong tools can easily cause damage to your watch. If the watch is "water-resistant" be sure to replace the gasket as well or it will leak - you cannot reuse the gasket. You best bet to do this without having to buy tools, find the correct battery and gasket and risking scratching the watch is to let a watch shop or jeweler do it. Most places will charge about $8 to replace the battery and gasket. Sears sometimes charges only $4 so either way it's worth it. Even though I have the tools myself I usually bring my watches in and have it done since I'd have to go out and buy the battery & gasket anyway.

How to open the back of a wrist watch to change the battery. i have two disney watches both have red m on the litle dial you use to set the time the model numbers on back of the watches are: mu1240 mu1108...

Identify first if it is a "screw on back" or a "pop off" back. Screw on backs have multiple indentions on the caseback where a special tool fits in the grooves to twist it on and off. If it is a screw type back then you will either need to buy a pricey caseback wrench or take it to a jewelry store that changes watch batteries.
A pop off back will have a smooth caseback with no indentions on it.
Most of these are "pop off" backs. to pop the back off get a very sharp blade and apply pressure at about a 30degree angle between the case and the caseback on the underside of your watch. From there you should be able to pry it and it should pop right off. Another way is to put a razorblade between the case and caseback, tap the blade with a small hammer (lightly!) and then pry the back off.

How to remove back to replace battery

take it to a reputable jeweler who can water test after the cell is replaced...if the gasket gets damaged with the caseback off the watch it will no longer be water resistant and will most definately rust if exposed to water

Replace the back of a dkny watch after replacing the battery,

For closing your caseback you need the man with very strong hands first, but it might not work as some casebacks can be closed using special tools only.
Before you visit the watchmaker, try this: first of all open your bracelet by taking out spring lug. This will make more space at the back. Then take watch caseback and check for groove in it. Align that groove with stem (pin going into watch movement) and deepen grooved caseback side as it should be. Then without turning caseback apply great pressure with both hands to the watch(from caseback and dial sides). If hands are strong enough, caseback should snap on into place.
In case if it doesn't work, find a piece of thick leather (wide mens belt will do) and place it on completely flat surface (table top). Place the watch face down on that leather, adjust caseback groove with stem again and try to press caseback down with both hands, only this time using your weight.
If all mentioned above doesn't work- you have to go to see watchmaker.

Good luck.
