Question about KitchenAid KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer

1 Answer

KitchenAid KSM90 motor runs, but beaters don't turn

The mixer is not new, but I've used it very little. I thought I couldn't live without it, spent a GREAT DEAL of money for it, and now the motor runs but the beaters don't turn. I'm extremely dissatisfied with this product, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I estimate it hasn't been used a dozen times. What a rip-off!!!

I feel your pain. I own a new Kitchenaid, and for some reason they changed some of the metal gears from metal to plastic on the newer models. I suspect it was to make it quieter. But they strip out. Happily, the replacement gears they sell are metal, and once replaced will last a lifetime.

You will either need to replce them yourself, of find a repair shop.

First time using bread dough beater It was hard to put on and am unable to remove

Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft

easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent.

If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet

(not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved

up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily

turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.

From Kitchenaid Manual:

To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook

1. Turn speed control to OFF.

2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.

3. Tilt motor head back.

4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward

as far as possible.

5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft.

6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

To Remove Flat Beater, Wire Whip or Dough Hook

1. Turn speed control to OFF.

2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.

3. Tilt motor head back.

4. Press beater upward as far as possible and turn left.
5. Pull beater from beater shaft.

MY kitchen Aide mixer was running alittle rough /loud and now has stop completely. It is approx 24 years old and has never had any problems. It is hard to find a local repair [place. any suggestions

Two things you can do for a 24-year old machine:

1. Replace both motor brushes (Black large plastic Caps on each side
of the Moto Housing). Without these, the motor wouldn't even run.
2. Replace the Worm Gear (the cause of the Rough Loud noises)

Download a copy of the Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com for
your model KSM90.

Also don't forget to tighten all the screws inside the mixers and use
fresh Kitchenaid Grade Food Grease for all the gears.

Beater won't turn, but motor is running.

Hi, Did you push the beater in so that it clicks. If all is good there, gear box maybe at fault or jammed. Take it to a service center for repair. If you are machanicly inclined (DIY) Take it apart and see why its not turning. Good luck.

Kitchenaid mixer won't run changed out brushes and have changed them out in all 4 different positions

The brushes need to be seated onto the armature. Try going from off to high quickly and tapping the motor housing. Once the motor starts, let it run for 15 min plus to seat the brushes. Keep clear of or remove beaters whille trying to get the moror running. In brief, the brushesaren't making good contact with armature. Good Luck

Motor runs but the beater does not move

you most likely stripped the plastic gear (Worm gear???).  This gear is designed to fail to prevent the motor from burning out under EXTREME loads (i.e. when a metal piece falls into the bowl). The plastic gear is much cheaper than a new motor.  Look around on this site to see how to get at/repair the gear.  I've found many parts on eBay.com and also PartSelect.com.
