SOURCE: I borrowed an older craftsman walk behind lawn

Well, they represent the size of the opening through which the product falls before hitting the spinning spreader part. A larger opening allows more product though; a smaller opening allows less.

I don't know if these are standardized across makes (I don't think they are). The best thing you could do would be to look in the hardware section next time you're in town and set a display model to the setting called for by your product (Scotts always lists the settings for their spreaders on their product), and then eyeball the size opening you get, then approximate that on your machine when you return home.

Or you can just pick the middle setting and do a test run and see if you think more or less should be applied, then adjust accordingly.

I am sorry that neither spreader performed as they should have. This is very concerning to us, and we would like to get more information about the spreaders, if you still have 1 the manufacture date would be most helpful to us. It sounds like you could possibly have an over-application of the product as well. If you could call us at 1-800-543-8873, we would be happy to discuss this with you. Stacey at Scotts.

You have given the area you want to spread, but you also need the rate per square foot of the fertilizer. The link above tells you how to calibrate and check the rate of application.

Or you could ask Turf King direct.

The spreader settings are never listed on lawn care products for this spreader. What should seeting be for Bayer fungicide?

If the product you are applying has a spreader setting for any Scotts SpeedyGreen, you can use that setting recommendation. If there is no Scotts Spreader setting, then this question would best be answered by calling Scotts directly at 1-800-543-8873. One of our associates would be happy to assist you further. Republic EZ broadcast spreader...what number to use when lining up the mark to calibrate the spreader...lost the instruction book

Hello, to solve your question about what number to use to calibrate your broadcast spreader, please use the step-by-step instructions below:

1. If you don't already know the square footage of your lawn, please walk off or measure, multiplying the length by width. For example, my lawn is 100 ft wide by 100 ft long; this equals 10,000 sq. ft.
2. Use this figure (30,000 sq ft) to determine how much fertilizer, insecticide, fungicide, apply etc., to purchase and apply.
3. To calibrate the spreader for applying your product at the correct rate, first weigh and hold out an amount of product to cover a pre-determined test area; for example, enough for a 200 sq ft space.
4. Because most lawn fertilizers are packaged to cover areas in 1000 sq ft increments, it's easy to figure how many 1,000 sq ft applications you need for your lawn.
5. Set your spreader to 3 and measure 1/5 of the recommended application on your product, to cover a 200 sq ft area.
6. Use your spreader to cover this 200 sq ft area.
7. If there is product remaining in the hopper after walking this 200 sq ft area, increase the setting number and move to another test area, repeat steps 5 and 6.
8. If there wasn't enough product to cover the test area, back the number down, move to another test area, and repeat steps 5 and 6, until you finish with product and lawn test area at the same time.
9. Remember to never leave product in your hopper because many chemicals are corrosive and can destroy the moving parts, making the spreader inoperable.

I hope this helps!

I have a Scotts Rotary Spreader model C2.\r\nIt has letters of the alphabet, can u send me the relationship to the numbers . Rich Jewell

There is no correlation between the letters on your C2 to the numbers that are now used on newer spreader models. Your best bet is to do your own test. Measure a 50 x 20 foot area in your lawn. Place enough material in your hopper to cover 1000 sq ft. Set your spreader setting on a ¼ of your spreader setting range. Spread the material over the 50 x 20 foot area. If you have product left over you increase your spreader setting. If you come up short you decrease your spreader setting. While this is not exact it will give you the ballpark setting

I have an old Jackson 36HSS-26 lawn spreader. What setting should I use for various materials? I am about to spread some Scotts Turf Builder with Plus 2 weed control.

It should say on the back of the box or give some indication as to the settings but in general you can gague it from the flow rate and or the granual size but a rough setting is about 5 to 6

How to use Spreaders

Follow the specific spreading instructions that come with your spreader. When working with spreaders, always load a spreader on a surface where an accidental spill can be cleaned up and won't matter (driveway, walkway, etc). Common practice is to first run the spreader around the periphery of the area you are treating; this ensures a consistent application around the edge of your lawn. Next, you run the spreader back and forth within the area bounded by your first perimeter run. Always allow on overlap to avoid missed streaks or "holidays". Ideally, apply your material at half the recommended rate and make two sets of runs, first back and forth in one direction, then again another set of runs at 90 degrees to the first set. This ensures a good consistent coverage and it compensates for any uneven patches.
