Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I can't synchronise my Palm Pilot Tungsten e2 with my PC running Windows 7. I have tried the USB cable, but apparently that is not supported on Windows 7. I have tried using bluetooth but although it makes a connection and starts synchronising, it never finishes. As a result I have a name and address file on my PC and one on the Palm Pilot but they are getting out of synch. Could I use my iPod instead of the Palm Pilot and, if so, how do I download the name and address file? Jim

I uninstalled Palm Desktop Manager and downloaded 6.2. I then ran it in Vista compatibility mode. The Palm Pilot made a Hotsync connection through bluetooth, but then went into an unrecoverable wait state (I had to use Task Manager to force it to cancel) while trying to synchronise Date Book. This was the same condition I had before. I therefore unchecked Date Book and every other application on the Hotsync Manager list except Address Book and it synchronised successfully, although very slowly. As I only use the Palm Pilot as a name and address file, this is OK for me. Thanks for your help. Jim

Welcome to FixYa.

Good day! Before doing an alternative such as using iPod, let's try to resolve the issue using the Palm OS. Here's the proper way to setup Palm Desktop 6.2 in Windows 7.

For Windows 7 32bit.

1. Uninstall the current Palm Desktop Manager (if you have one installed)
Click on start, control panel, under Programs category, click Uninstall Program.
Scroll down to look for the Palm Desktop Program and uninstall it.

2. Download the Palm Desktop 6.2 from this link
Install in Vista compatibility mode.
After downloading, locate the file and right click on it.
1.-Click on properties and go to Compatibility tab.
2-Tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box.
3-Choose Windows Vista from the pull down options.
4-Tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box.
5-Click apply.
6-Click OK.

I can't synchronise my Palm Pilot Tungsten e2 with - jas247_72.gif

Double click the downloaded file to begin the installation.
Use the Palm Desktop 6.2 to do Synchronization.

Please take note of the following release notes from the manufacturers itself.

  • Palm has not done thorough testing with a range of third-party equipment running Windows 7, therefore Palm cannot guarantee compatibility.
  • Many users have successfully installed and run Palm Desktop 6.2 software with Windows 7.
  • USB HotSync is not supported in 64-bit editions of Windows. Instead, synchronize through a Bluetooth wireless connection.
I hope this helps.
If you are using 64bit Windows, please inform me.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I'm trying to sync my E2 with the Desktop. It all works ok until it reaches the stage of the Palm showing"synchronising Tasks" white the Hot sync window on the PC shows "installing handheld applications" ....

If you are running 3rd party apps, your E2 is starting to reject them. Either hard reset your E2 and reload everything or lose it and get a Siemens SX66. I had an E2 and a Z22. Wouldn't have either now. My wife has an E. Too bad

Appropriate software for tungsten e2 palmOne

If you said you have the software (desktop), your doing it backwards. Run the desktop software by going to my pc and running the disc. The software will then ask you to plug in your E2 so it can register it. It will then synch and your in business. Had E2 for a very long time. Can tell you things that guy can do that would surprize you. Have everything but unit now.
