This problem could be caused by a lot of things. The remote control not working could be as a result of the batteries so get replacement batteries. If the batteries are not the problem then the remote is old and due for replacement.
The receiver on the other hand is having the problems it is having due to either old age or there is a malfunction in the unit control board which controls the functions. Simply get the unit serviced at the local dealer so it functions properly again.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

You probably have a LAN connector at the rear of your BD player . Connect it to your Internet modem , start your BD player and follow instructions with your remote command .

Cannot get BluRay/DVD system to respond to remote commands. Only the Samsung TV will. I cannot figure out how to switch the remote into giving only BluRay/DVD functions. I've read this unit has a...

Yes, the reason for this is that the BD-Receiver/TV button was pressed twice. This button has 2 modes of operation depending on the color it flashes when you press any button on the remote. If the BD-Receiver/TV button flashes green then it is in TV mode and if it flashes orange then it is in BD Receiver mode. The way to switch between the 2 modes is simple but not intuitive and easily not noticed. Simply press the BD-Receiver/TV button it will light-up green or orange, depending on what mode it is in, for about 1 second. The trick is to quickly press it again BEFORE the light goes out. When this is done the color of the light will change. If it was green it will change to orange and vice versa. Rember, Orange = BD Receiver function Green = TV

emote command mode is different to the unit. Try resetting the remote by doing the following;

While unit is on, but no discs loaded or playing, remove the batteries from the remote (as if you were replacing them), press any button on the remote to clear its buffer, then, if the batteries you removed are OK, re-insert them. Point remote at the player, press and hold 1 and ENTER/OK buttons together for 10 seconds, then release. This should restore your remote's command to the original default mode, and it should control the player fully.

Panasonic and some SONY units operate on this principle with remote command modes (these differ between models). RC1 / DVD1 / SET1 is usually the default.

Very easy to do, takes a few seconds, and costs nothing.

Hi,
Slide remote lower cover and look for DVD Command mode set switch, set it to DVD-3 position, your RDR-VX530 will accept remote commands.
Thanks.

Locked out of the menue ,Need to reset command mode

Indeed, I did the same thing.... I did find the answer in the manual!
Here's a copy of it (pg 23):

Set the command mode for the remote so it matches
the command mode for the recorder you set above.
1 Hold down ENTER
2 While holding down ENTER, enter the
command mode code number using the
number buttons.
Command Mode Code number
DVD1 number button 1
DVD2 number button 2
DVD3 number button 3
3 Hold down both the number buttons and
ENTER at the same time for more than 3
seconds.
4 Let up, press RETURN, all done!
