Question about HP Photosmart C6380 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

I have an hp c6830 photosmart printer. I took out the main black cartridge and havent got it filled yet but i lost the old one. Now It says on the screen Ink cartridge error. Is there anyway to bypass that just untill i get the new cartridge so i can access the printer setup and use all the other features, because as of right now i pushed all the buttons but that screen wont go away so i can setup my wireless with new laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Please clean the print heads :

Press Setup up - Tools - Clean Print heads on the All-in-One.

If this does not resolve the issue , Reset the All-in-One.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold OK and HELP buttons while plugging in the power cord.

If issue stil persists. Contact HP.

SOURCE: HP PHOTOSMART C4280 PRINTER WONT READ INK CARTRIDGE.

The cartridge is not seated properly and/or the contacts are dirty. Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and gently clean both the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge socket. Allow several minutes to dry and then try again.

SOURCE: hp 2610xi not recognizing HP 97 color cartridge

If you look in the 96 (Black) cartridge loading area you might see that the retention spring has poked a hole in the circut board. I am now either trying to replace the ink cartridge holder or purchace a new printer. I have about $70.00 in new ink that I can't use now. The 2610xi worked great until the spring popped out of its holder.

Filling your cartridge with non-HP ink won't cause an error. There are basically two reasons for ink system failure, The cartridge is no good or the ink system has failed. Some of these machines can be reset. But, try replacing cartridge first.

Can the hp4180 run with just the black ink cartridge filled with ink and not the color cartridge

no, I don't think that it is recommended to run with just the black ink cartridge filled and no color cartridge.

But, you can try it, as some hp printers do work that way.

The instructions say that low ink cartridges should be replaced to get the best print quality.

The black cartridge is full and is recognised as such by the printer but black doesn't print

If you havent used the cartridge in awile,,soak the printhead..not the whole cartridge..just the tip of the printhead where the ink comes out. Soad for a couple of min or hours if necessary in a little windex. usuall work with about 1/2 inch of windex. The cartridge may also be faulty even if new.
