Dear Danny,
For sure the leak has to be fixed. Most probably the O rings that prevent the oil coming out or going into the head are damaged. You can open the cover first using a Torx T15 screw driver. The head can be removed by using Alen Keys in many cases. If you find the compartment of the oil under the pump head full of water the seals are damaged.
Now before one changes the seals, the pistons mustbe checked. If the pistons ( 3 in number have scrathes or grooves it is useless changing the oil seals. In that case the pistons must be changed.
If the pistons are found in perfect condition..( which oftenly are not)...then oil seals can be changed....and also all gaskets. This job is better done by a qualkified technician......but if you have the tools and a bit of mechanical is child;s play. Always when working see that electricity is not connected. I wish to add that the high and low pressure seals must be damaged also. Thus the pressure drops. Also sometimes instead of oil they are using a type of grease. You can see it as it resembles butter. As I said if you have the tools and all spares available....go ahead and good luck!!

How are the symtoms diffrent on internal and external head gasket leak? on 1986 honda civic

On an external head gasket leak you can see coolant leaking out between the cylinder head and engine block at the place where it is leaking .

An internal leak usually occurs into the cooling system . When this happens you might find that the cooling system will pressurize and you will experience coolant loss . The coolant loss may occur through the radiator over flow or on the other hand into the engine cylinders .

When this occurs through the engine cylinders you might find that the engine oil level will increase or the oil could turn a milky white color ( depending on the type of oil )

Also the exhaust smoke will be white in appearance as you rev the motor . ( caused by the coolant inhibitor being burnt in the engine cylinders )

Really loud noise, smell of burning then complete loss of power

It can be that the capacitor has burst which has resulted in the total loss of power to the motor. So open the vacuum and check for the motor section to find if there is a leak.

I repaired an AC leak, vacuumed the system down for 8 hours and am ready to recharge. How much oil is normally (lost) do I need to replace with the freon R134? Is more oil lost in a big leak like a...

Did you repair the leak? You need to before you do anything. You must do a full oil and freon recharge after vacuum. You can find places that will refill with R-12 or equivalant. R-12 operates at a lower ppressure and cools better without replacing any other parts.
