Entered built in HDD1 user password

Hello

as the bios was reset the harddrive password was removed from the bios memory.

To get the password unlocked you will need to remove the harddrive from the laptop, buy a adapter so you can connect it to your pc and then do a few things Il tell you about later if your going to do it.

otherwice you can take the harddrive to a shop to be unlocked / reset to defaults.

Reset the BIOS due to drive error message

No, I do not concur.........

BIOS has sent a message that your harddrive is about to go south for the winter, and isn't taking you along.
In otherwords the harddrive is about to fail, and you are about to lose all your personal important information.

The message is for you to get as much of your personal stuff off of the computer. Copy to disk/s, flashdrives, or external harddrive.

Get ready to replace the Harddrive.

No? I have it all wrong? You already replaced the harddrive, and the message still comes up?

How to reset Hdd1/ssd1 forgotten password?

A) To resolve the initial BIOS lockout, download the most recent BIOS firmware, and flash the system if possible.

[ Note*
1) IF, there is a power outage at your home/business, when flashing the BIOS, your motherboard becomes an expensive paperweight.

It isn't it may happen, it IS do Not lose power, or this will happen. However this goes with number 2 below also,

2) When flashing the BIOS program it will be asked (Should) if you wish to create a backup, before proceeding to the flash.
The answer is Y-E-S.

Should something happen as briefly described above, you will have the original BIOS program backup to go back to ]

B) Then remove your harddrive, install it into an economical 2.5 SATA external enclosure, and pull your personal info off by attaching the external enclosure's USB cable, to a working computer.

Then reinstall the harddrive, and use the Recovery Disk to Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

You May be forced however, to perform a Full Installation instead.
(Destructive Installation)
You will have your personal information because you saved it. You will however, have to reinstall programs/applications.

[ Harddrives come in two different sizes, and technologies, at present.

A harddrive is measured across it's Width.
A laptop harddrive is 2-1/2 inches across.
A desktop harddrive is 3-1/2 inches across.

The two technologies being used at present for harddrives, is IDE (PATA), and SATA.

The Satellite L455D series uses a 2.5 inch SATA harddrive,

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,P000506260.aspx

{ Not stating the original harddrive was an Hitachi. Showing that the harddrive uses the SATA technology. It is already known that the size is 2.5
It is a laptop harddrive }

This is information on IDE (PATA) technology,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA#IDE_and_ATA-1

This is information on SATA technology,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

This is but one example of a 2.5 SATA external enclosure,

Use Anti-Static Precautions when working on your laptop.
Be Sure ALL power is removed. AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

Proper installation of tower wires

According to Gateway Support, the Gateway 505GR desktop computer uses an Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/3724/3724iv.shtml

Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard,

http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4GWAUGSBURG

Scroll down to the photo with the sections marked in red.

In the top link, looking at the motherboard with the computer case open, the USB and Firewire (1394a) cables, can be seen attached to the motherboard near the letters D, E, and F.

In F that red cable is a SATA cable. One end attaches to the back of the SATA harddrive, (The angled end), and the other end of the SATA cable attaches to one of those SATA headers on the motherboard.
(SATA header = SATA connector on motherboard)

Preferred SATA header for the Harddrive is SATA 1.
DOESN'T matter though. That's the beauty of SATA. You can plug the SATA data cable into ANY SATA header on the motherboard, and BIOS will find the harddrive.

In the second link, looking at the motherboard photo shown, and comparing it to the view of the motherboard as mounted in the computer case, the Front Panel header is at the very Bottom Right.

Two rows of pins in a White rectangular shaped header,

http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4GWAUGSBURG

(S points to Front Panel header)

[ The plastic front of a desktop computer is the Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the Front Panel wires go to, is the Front Panel header ]

A) Top row has Even numbered pins
B) Bottom row has Odd numbered pins.

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-009016.htm

1) Power LED = Power On LED light
2) Hard Drive Activity LED = LED light that flashes (Usually red in color) when your harddrive is active. Being used.
3) Reset switch = Reset Button. The Reset switch is behind the Reset button. (IF the computer uses a Reset switch)
4) Power Switch = Power On switch
5) Forget about Pin 9. That's for 5 Volts DC - Out. Used by factory.

Which wires coming out of the Front Panel, are the Power On wires, Harddrive LED light wires, Power On switch wires, etc.?

Remove the Front Panel, and trace where the wires end.

IF, the wires already installed coming from the motherboard to the Front Panel, are Too short, you should make notes before you remove them from the motherboard.

Note what color pair of twisted wires, went to where, in the Front Panel.
Compare to the chart of the Front Panel header given above.
(IF any wires are still connected to the Front Panel header on the motherboard)

Once the Front Panel is removed, it's usually pretty easy to trace the two wires up to the Power On switch.
Same for the Power On LED light.
Again, same for the HarDDrive activity LED light.

The SATA harddrive requires a DATA cable, and a SATA power cable.

The connector for a Data cable has 7 contact pins. It is the shorter connector.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_Data_Cable.jpg

The connector can be at a 90 degree angle as shown, or a straight connector.
IF the data cable has an angled connector, it plugs into the Harddrive.
Straight connector goes to the motherboard.

The connector for a SATA power cable has 15 contact pins. It is the longer connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

Note the L shape of the connectors for the SATA data cable, and SATA power cable.

Also;
This is a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Commonly misnomered as a 'Molex' power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

IF, the SATA harddrive has a provision for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, ONLY use just the SATA power cable.

Using both power cables will burn up the harddrive.
May not happen immediately in some cases, but WILL eventually happen.

Iomega harddrive is networked to my Linksys router and is not working properly. I'd like to know how to reset and start over.

Hi,
You just have to reset the linksys router by using the reset button on the back. Push and hold the reset button for 30 seconds and this should reset the router. Access the router's setup page and set a static IP for the Iomega harddrive.
Hope this helps.

First reconnect both connection to harddrive power cable and ide or sata cable. Make sure harddrive is set as master you can set it as master with jumper settings on harddrive. Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 to enter in bios then you can see bios setup on screen make sure harddrive is recognized there. Reconnect RAM memory. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
