This is a common proplem with binoculars that have been dropped. needs to be taken apart and realigned. trouble is some binos today are not worth the time or cost to repair if they were made in china, more of a toy...to realign would cost you at least $35 plus shipping..if i can help further? capecod389@aol.com

What do the terms 3x40 mean

The first number specifies the magnification. The second number is the size of the front lens. "3x40" means a three-power magnification with a front lens 40mm across.

The lens size is given because a larger lens collects more light and thus produces a brighter image. A 7x50 will be usable longer after sunset than a 7x35, for example, though neither should be considered as night-vision glasses.

B/L ZEPHYR 7X35 HARD TO ROTATE CENTER KNOB FOCUS?

Over time the grease in the central pivot shaft hardens to restric the rotation of the focusing wheel. Heat from a hair dryer combined with a little WD-40 can ustally re-soften the grease permitting the wheel to turn slightly. Working the wheel back and forth over a short period of time should get it to work again easily.

No apparent exterior damage but now my nikon's have "double vision" clear on each individual tube but doubled vision when veiwing normal. any suggestions?

The prisms have shifted inside of the binoculars. This is not an easy job as you have to make corrections to the angle of the prisms for leaning field and collimation. Two suggestions:
1. If they are under warranty take them to a repair agent.
2. If you want to do it yourself, there are instructions on the web about how to go about effecting a collimation. Too long to go into detail here.

Double vision

The distance between the centers of the eyepieces of your binocular must be the same as the distance between your pupils. This distance is adjusted as follows: 1. Focus on a distant object. 2. Pivot the two halves of your binocular farther or closer apart until you can see a single unobstructed, circular field of view. Make sure to focus on a distant object when you do this because when you focus on a close object you always see two slightly overlapping circular fields. Your binocular may have a scale on the top, between the eyepieces, to help you remember this setting.
